I change my engine oil every 3000 to 5000 miles on my 1200 sport but it’s been about four years since I changed the other oil’s and I’m a little bit rusty in remembering exactly. The Moto Guzzi manual isn’t the clearest thing to understand but from what I can remember and read, this is what it is and correct me if I’m wrong…
Rear gear oil: drain and fill to the edge of hole with 85W 90 hyploid GL-5 ~380cc (first picture)
Transmission oil: drain and fill to the bottom vertical edge of the wall. 85w90 hyploid GL-5 (second picture)
Besides the engine oil, fork oil, are these the 2 primary oils to replace?
Is FINAL DRIVE the same as REAR GEAR?
Is FINAL TRANS the same as TRANSMISSION OIL?
What goes into the plug in the THIRD PICTURE?
Thanks

Mine is a Norge, but here goes..
I put 3,600 cc into the engine with a new filter.
The gearbox is next, (the one just behind the clutch) and it gets it’s 80/90 into the hole in the side up until it starts to dribble out.
The bevel box is last, the plug that’s on axle level (if it had an axle), is where you throw the 80/90 in and it is filled until it also starts to dribble out.
The little thing sticking out the top of the bevel box is a vent. I clean mine out @ each service. I have done so for 220,000 km. That’s 22 times…
BTW, when is the last time you changed your fork oil ? If you can’t tell me the last time, what about the first ?
ps…Please clean around the plug/s before removing them…

So the 1st picture is the rear drive oil hole?
The 2nd picture the transmission oil hole?
The 3rd picture is what?

How does the bevel box vent work? It just stays in place and allows venting to occur?

Pretty much any API GL-4 80W-90 will work in both the gearbox and CARC (aka pumpkin, transmission, bevel drive, final drive). 75/90 or 85/90 GL4 works fine too. I prefer the GL4.
I use whatever I happen to have, though it is usually the excess Swepco 201 from my P cars. I have also used the Lucas and Off the shelf Valvoline. The only one I do NOT recommend is that Redline Shockproof goop.
The 3rd picture button thing on the top of the final drive is the vent. I remove it and fill through that hole, and while off spray out with brake/carb cleaner.
The plug on the rear of the final drive is the level. Fill till the oil reaches the hole. Same for the transmission, but that is also the fill point.
I try to change fork oil every 6K miles along with the trans and diff. Haven't done it on the 1200 Sport yet, as I have only put 4-5K on it since owning. I will do it all before Spring and I prep it for sale.
As much as I love the 1200 Sport, it is too close to the GRiSO as a Sporting bike and doesn't have the weather protection I want in a true long distance Sport Touring bike, so it will be up for sale soon. I found a well cared for Norge in very nice condition, and that will fill the Long Distance duties.

Bulldog, the 3rd picture you refer to as the button vent. I’m confused… when you take it off, what do you fill it? What purpose is it filled?
Just asking.

That is the Final Drive Vent. It unscrews from the top of the rear diff housing. I use it to fill the gear oil, is very easy, especially when you are using one of the gear oil bottles with a top like this:

So instead of unscrewing, the fill cap in picture number one, you just unscrew the top one and fill it from there until it starts running out?

That's what I do. Makes filling easier, and also allows me to make sure that the breather is clear. You still have to remove the 'filler/level' plug to make sure you don't over fill, but it makes filling easier.

Thanks for the info!
