Before today's ride, I decided to finally adjust the preload on the shock absorbers on my Roamer. Shame on me for not doing it sooner! I added 10 mm of preload, and that was just the ticket. No longer did the shock absorbers bottom out over sharp bumps, and the front and rear suspension are now much more in tune with each other. Great increase in overall comfort. Since the shock springs are progressive, adding preload actually do change the overall springrate. The bike still has budget suspension, but the overall performance is satisfying for the way I ride these days.

Very Interesting- I've just done the same thing and significantly improved things.
I have Hagon Nitros on the back that came with the bike when I bought it, so should have been good, but weren't built for me.
I can now cross the river and ride on Nottinghamshire County Council roads and not have my spine driven into the base of my skull ....
