Hiya,
I have spent the last few years learning about engines with my CB500, tracking it and such, but I have realised the Breva is a completely different beast! I am trying to get it tip top as want to change the reg from Isle of Man to UK but I have an intermittent EFI light. The bike has only been ridden a handful of times over the last few years so it has bee sitting on its side stand a lot. I did an oil change on the weekend and took it for a shake down ride and on returning noted some smoke coming out of the left head/injector area. :(
Keen to learn and get my head around the bike as it seems Guzzi specialist are few and far between in Birmingham (UK) so today Ill be printing out a workshop manual, looking into getting a scanner and continuing the standard service items like the air filter, and gear/shaft oil.

Any ideas of places to start investigating this.. I didn't note it when I had the bike idling in the shed, so am thinking it must be once the engine is hot - going to double check this today... maybe injector seals or o rings perhaps or something worse...

Twiggers in Loughborough have probably forgotten more about Guzzi than most of us have ever learnt. The are now just a workshop (no bike sales) but well worth contacting.

OOh Thanks for that Paul - will look them up. :)

Looks to me like oil from airbox is smoking w/hot, not from injectors.

Thanks for the reply Steve That sounds potentially less worrying? Going to take out the air filter later - do you think if it hadn't been replaced in a long time and was all grim that would cause the issue?
-
If your oil is on full mark it could be migrating to airbox. If your crankcase breather hoses are cracked & deteriorating, that could also be the issue.
Not injectors or you would have fire & see fuel leaking.
To address the EFI lite, I would find the dealer or someone who has the cables & GuzziDiag software to find issue there.

 Not injectors or you would have fire & see fuel leaking. I am very glad I did not see that :D Really appreciate the advice - I thought maybe the efi could have been the injectors being a bit manky having sat for long periods without running, tho maybe that is more me knowing carbs a tiny bit better than injection (no knowledge)
Will investigate the crankcase breather hoses.

Well - I have found the reason for the smoke! :D Always pays to have a good check over before panicking.. my brain jumped from 0 to cracked head but thanks to Steve mentioning breather hoses I had a good look over and spotted the left one had lost its little clip at some point and come off its fitting.
Not sure if that could have been contributing to the intermittent EFI light, once I have replaced the air filter gonna give it a good thrash with some fresh fuel and maybe some injector cleaner and see where we get to.
