Title: Dual Hella disc horns on '23 V7
Post by: bronzestar1 on June 25, 2024, 10:11:21 PM
Upgraded to a pair of Hella disc horns.  Used the bolts for the engine guards to mount the horn brackets; ran a couple of "Y" wires off the OEM connections to the new horns; everything worked great without needing a relay.  These Hella horns are small size like OEM, don't take up much space, and they're louder than the single OEM horn.  Got my set thru Amazon for $18.  The box only includes the horns and brackets, so you'll need wire terminals and wire to finish the job.

The blue male connector goes to one of the OEM wire connections off the horn.  The two red female connectors go to one terminal each on the new horns.  Repeat for the other OEM horn wire, and you'll be done.

Nicely done! Are they a lot louder than the stock horn? The stock one is pretty  much useless.

Looks good!

If the stock horn is the same as on the V85TT, saying the Hella horns are louder isn't saying much.

The V85 horn is an embarrassment!    :embarrassed:

Most all of the OEM horns are an embarrassment. Just enough to satisfy the DOT.

Put a set of Hella's on my ev years ago.
There were different sets of Hella's at that time and I tried to match the original stock size.
So sound may vary with other sizes.
My initial impression was they reminded me of the horns on a compact car. Think beep, beep.
However they replaced a set of freeway blasters that was head and shoulders louder, think large truck, but not as good looking.

The new V100's suffer from this also.  The OEM single horn is a joke, sounds like a scooter.  A lot of guys are doing exactly what you have done.

Is the draw on the circuit the same for both of these as the OEM and if higher is the circuit and horn button rated for the additional draw?

Did you run the in series or parallel?

The main reason I ask is because I have read on other bike forums the horn button not being able to hold up to the current draw and getting destroyed by one long application of the horn.

Safest to add a relay and power from the battery / aux fuse box. If you're not totally happy doing this yourself then visit easternbeaver.com and buy his high power horn wiring kit. Money well spent.

Exactly.  And get an air horn kit while you're at it.  You want a horn or a HORN!?

I wouldn't say they're LOUD, you'd need snail horns or a compact air horn to get a LOUD horn, along with wiring in a relay.  I wanted to stay as OEM-looking as possible, and not have to wire a relay, so these Hellas fit the bill.

The box says they only draw 1.5A, so I didn't add a relay.  They're wired in parallel, in that I spliced them both into the OEM wires, not into one horn then jumped to the other.

Most OEM stock horns on motorcycles are quite useless.  I can FART louder than most...   :thumb:

I have used dual, red HELLA horns on several of my Guzzi's.  They are about 118dB and do the job.

I have a set of horns like those on my Aprilia, their larger size makes them louder than the smaller discs I have on the Guzzi.  I like the red!

i put these 6" dual horns on my Voyager 1700.  Wife said they sounded like an EMS vehicle clearing an intersection.

Squeezed this compact air horn into the fairing on my ninja 650.

Over time I realized that when I really needed the horn I was too busy avoiding.  It mostly got used as a pre-emptive or after the crisis is over blast.  I eventually stopped adding them because I rarely ride around cars.

Thanks Bronzestar1, I purchased the same horns and went from 99db to 108db. Easily done and they look good and work great. I mounted mine directly to the original bracket as I have Givi crash bars, no the ones you have.
