My ‘03 Stone just arrived last night to the garage and I need to replace the rear tail setup due to the stock arms breaking off and so forth. You can buy a whole new stock setup for a mere $160 or something close to that; however, it will probably break again eventually; thus, has anyone here done a replacement for this other than stock and can you share pics? Or, has anyone maybe bought the stock setup and somehow reinforced it prior to installing?

Lots of people have replaced that taillight unit.
I'm sure we'll see some good suggestions. Michael D bent up some aluminum sheet and used an LED trailer light for his EV, which uses the same taillight housing. His posts about it are old and in the archives, so kind of hard to access.

My 04 Stone had pieces of a broken taillight. I attached a Harley coffin one and I like that. Directional lights on it. I will try to post a pic.

When I had my old Jackal with the stock housing I replaced the turn signals using off the shelf Buell units that were smaller and more light weight. But I had custom machined spacers that someone on here made. (Jeff in Ohio or something like that, it was a decade ago).
But then when I ditched the rear fender for a custom mount I installed a whole separate aftermarket Lucas/Triumph styled light.
I think if I was starting from scratch with a stock fender I would simply start with reinforcing the stock housing and installing some sort of smaller/lighter light.
A simple metal bracket with 90 degree ends on each end that protrude over the sides of the housing should do the trick with reinforcement no?

I was able to preserve the fender's 'standoff bracket' with this fabrication. This assembly started life as an axle mount license plate holder that I modified, welded and somehow ended up here. It's been a decade, can't recall exactly.

I replaced mine with a CalVin taillight around 2007, still holding up good
