I miss the aesthetic style and flush profile of my V7 II fuel cap. While I totally dig the simplicity of a screw-style, the V7 III cap sits a bit too proud of the tank, limiting the attachment confidence of the magnetic tank somewhat; also, it stands out aesthetically, reminding me of one of those Transformer accessory parts that I typically lost a month after purchasing the new toy.

I was looking at flush profile gas caps, and found some that pop up and turn. These are often marketed for Harleys, but I was wondering if the insert and threading is universal?

These pop-up screw-type gas caps online range from a wallet-friendly $12-20 USD to $60. Anyone have experience with them?

I think that my V9 has the same cap, except it's the non locking version
I toyed with changing to the locking version but baulked at the cost :shocked:
However, I discovered that the cap from my mates 2014 Triumph Boneville fitted, so that might be an avenue to follow

This is not exactly what you’re looking for, but I’ll throw it into the mix. I’ve been using it for a couple of years now this screw-in gas cap from lowbrow customs. It’s made for HD or triumphs, but works fine and I think looks cool. If you’re interested, I can point you to the link for it.

Great to know that the HD caps match the Triumphs—provided the HDs all share the same threads as one another.

I tried one that another Guzzi site sells with the pop up center knob. I hated it. First, they forgot to say it was vented. When you fill the tank up in hot weather, it spits gas all over the tank. Second, it made the tank ugly as sin. Take your existing cap off and look at that ugly seam around the tank with the poor paint. The stock cap covered all that, but the new one didn't. If I found a non vented one as wide as the stock, I'd buy it.

I bought a $16 black cap. I purposely over filled the tank so it was above the anti-splash metal inside the filler.
After 10 miles I saw some gas outside the tank. Wiped the gas away. The gas was now at a normal full level. There was no more leaking for the next 50 miles.
So I am satisfied and will keep the cap on the V7III. I decided I liked the shine black cap on the matt tank.
