Title: V85 Travel
Post by: snobear on August 13, 2024, 04:57:50 PM
For those with the V85 Travel plastic side cases are they strong enough to take the occasional offroad tip over or are the mounts quite light?

I think the mounts will hold, but I am not sure on the hinges.  When I went out west I put a Kevlar tie down strap around each case and also looped it through the rack, just in case it would hold some of the weight .  I had no problems and don't know if I would have - just to be safe.

I've taken my Travel with its Urbans across tough treks in outback Aus, and the plastic cases themselves held up quite well...even from a fly-off (see below) and an altercation with a Skippy roo. Pannier bounced back into closing shape no problems. The weak point was the mount onto the rails. Where the keylock slide on the pannier locks into the plastic mount appears to break rather easily when impacted pushing the pannier back...as one kangaroo proved. The other side broke too from a nap while traversing a patch of deep sand at low speed and the brain not switched on. YMMV

I think they are crap, look good but damage easy and very crappy hinges.
