Title: Deer hit
Post by: John A on September 30, 2024, 10:07:14 AM
This video shows how it is when you center punch one. I don’t know where it is but the road reminds me of 61 along the Mississippi, south of here. Seems like deer have to crap on demand, they carry a lot of it. I usually dynamite the brakes as soon as I see the first one but that’s risky. https://youtu.be/DrUPD3tUbxI?si=XT7YjSmMhqf1tn0b

The rider on the Ducati would have suffered less if he wore proper gear, and not at all if he had used the brakes harder, but it is a good reminder to pay attention.

One with better luck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDPpH2g_uvs

Yikes, my Son hit a deer on Sunday in his car - caused enough damage and it was only a small deer.

I wouldn't want to hit one on a bike...

I have killed 3 deer with a motorcycle, but 56 years of riding with 50 motorcycles that is bound to happen. The last one happened 2 months ago with my 2022 V7 850 Special. The deer came out of the field and ran into my leg, knocked me into the other lane and made me go into a wobble, truck coming at me slowed down, I got back into my lane and never went down. NO damage to the Guzzi, but my leg was black and blue for a couple of weeks, had to use crutches for a while. All better now, no doctor, at 72 I heal fast.

5 Miles from the Fossil rally in 2023 . Didn't even have time to reach for the brakes , impact , wobble and carried on more slowly .  Peter

I had a similar experience but didn’t get hit. I was leading a small group on some Wis. backroads when one ran out from a cornfield on my left. He ran along side of me , his eyes were wild and he was foaming at the mouth. Then suddenly he jumped over me and I heard his hooves hit the saddle bag. We had been slowing for a stop sign and at the stop my friends wife asked how long I had worked with him to get him to do that trick. They are like rats, running around everywhere. There should not be a limit for hunters, for a few years anyway

Yeah, agreed - no limits on deer! Especially within a quarter mile of the road.

Hello All,                                                                                                                                                                                      10-2-24

Back in 1992, I was driving my station wagon, midday on a quiet back road when I came across two deer standing off to the side.  I slowed down to about 15 mph just to take a look and then one of them leapt into the woods. The other one leapt toward my car and landed on the hood.  It then scampered off into the woods.  It seemed to be fine.  But that deer owes me $278...that was the repair and repaint of my hood.  GGgggrrr.

Be well,
DougG
