There's occasionally talk about identifying bores on round barrel Tonti's.
One simple tell tale sign of upgrades to Nikasil Gillardoni bores is this : the slightly larger rectangle at the bottom of the barrel on these two sets have "Gillardoni" embossed in them so no need to dig out the magnets there !

Well known fact and one of the first things that should be checked for. However, not all Nikasil/Nigusil bore cylinders are made by Gilardoni, especially recently. Plus, there's always the chance they could have been replated.

Never have I seen anyone refer to this marking.
It simply confirms that if a set has it then it's from a good source...if not you need to investigate further.

I rode past the Giladorni factory on Saturday, I had no idea it is in Mandello. If I had know I might have paid a visit on Friday.

Think there's maybe 3 or 4 Gilardoni plants around Mandello. The big one on 72 by the Lake, I think is Gilardoni Nucleare, they make X ray stuff. No relation to the cylinder guys. The one on Constituzione, I think is the one that makes the cylinders. That's maybe a block from Valpolini. And there's at least one more, over behind where Stucchi was, on the other side of the Cemetery from the Guzzi factory. Not sure what goes on there. I keep thinking there is a 4th, can't remember 100%. I hit them all once upon a time, couldn't get in the door of any of them. Nice time of year to be there !!

So, what do I have? Bike is a 1981 T3 California that was extensively reworked/modified in Germany sometime in the 1990s. I thought the cylinders we're Gilardonis, but this thread, and the photo in the first post has me wondering. Not sure what the casting says.... it might be "Gilardoni" but it's certainly not as crisp as the one in the first post. What say the experts?

Gillardoni without a doubt.
