Title: Windscreen clip ons
Post by: Gliderjohn on November 12, 2024, 09:16:31 PM
Looking for opinions/suggestions for a clip on type windscreen extensions to use on my T-3. I get full air, but clean air from shoulders up which is great for shorter rides in warmer temps but for longer or cooler rides would like to have my head area protected too. See picture to see current screen height.

many choices on Amazon.

This is what I got.  Chose the small based on the size of the V85TT touring screen that came on my bike.

Angle and height adjustable, plus when folded up barely adds any deflection so I don't have to take it off.

Something to consider, depending on the stiffness of your shield and the extension you choose, you may see them flutter ever so slightly. This will drive you batty, at least it did me..
Extension and no extension example in pics

I have and do use the cheap China defectors, with great success.   They seem flimsy, but they work well in use.  I had mine over the ton more than once and they didn't come apart!

John, i think this is the one I have on my Breva 750 windshield, the I'm not sure it's much help really, but I haven't ridden behind it much or far. I have adjusted it a few times, seems to hold adjustment etc.

If you get the ones that don’t have extensions off the mount, it cuts down on the flutter. When I fitted some l got sidetracked by wanting to build a smoke machine to track airflow. Keeping the smoke in a concentrated stream was the stopping point on that. So I would feel the air as I rode and took my best guess on placement which worked

Not going to do much in that position.

Try raising it until you just see over it.

In the position it's in, it works sort of like a Laminar Lip. I wanted a Laminar Lip, but availability is nonexistent. I'm really just trying to make the air flow go a little higher and faster. It does seem to work in that position. I am assuming it compresses the air entering the gap and accelerates it, somewhat like a Laminar Lip apparently does. The angle of attack is what makes a difference, so I am experimenting with that. I kind of like it where it is but have not fully explored all the possibilities as yet.

you will not get the flow characteristics of a laminar lip with that deflector because it doesn't have the correct curve to change the airflow.
