Hello,
Anybody familiar with the run/stop switch on a 2020 V85tt? Since I bought this bike used with north of 50k miles, that switch has been finicky. Usually, repeatedly pressing the switch would eventually allow the bike to start. This is no longer the case. If you hold the switch fully depressed, the bike starts. As soon as the switch is released the motor stops so I am pretty certain this is the issue.
I assumed I could take the whole assembly (hazards, menu, high/low beams) apart to get to the run/stop switch but it is actually riveted to the handlebars.
I'd be happy just to clip the wires and remove the r/s switch altogether if I could tell which wires were correct.

Just flush it out good with Deoxit. Or at least contact cleaner.

I should have mentioned I did that.... Maybe made it more sticky. Perhaps I should keep at it with the rest of the can.

Finally removed the whole switch assembly from the bike. Can't finds way to remove the individual switches from the assembly. Afraid to pry too hard as the other switches are still working. Sprayed the hell out of it as best I could with contact cleaner. No change.
Anybody able to read the wiring diagram linked below? Would be easy to just connect the two wires going to the stop switch if that works.

OK, if you look at #13 says RH lite switch AND on pin#3 will be red/yellow and pin#8 is green/pink These should be the on wires I think
I am well versed at these diagrams BUT it would be nice if someone else looked & confirm. It's a nice diagram.
I did check were they go so Red/Yellow goes to a switch in ECU pin #12 and green/pink goes to Clutch switch

I also have a 2020 V85. When the light switch is forward so the aux running lights are always on, there’s an open slot that will let water in when it’s raining. I put a small piece of electrical tape over it so water can’t seep inside.

That’s number 5 in my list of 13 faults on the V85TT that should’ve been corrected before the bike went into production :grin: The tape is a good idea if you ever ride in rain or wash the bike.
Probably the worst of the 13 to me is the annoyingly over sensitive and variable fly-by-wire throttle response, combined with a too heavy throttle return spring (number 8). Another candidate would be the high beam switch design that I activate unintentionally several times on every ride (number 3).

You might have to find the RH switch (13) complete and replace it as far as connector (1)

I've been using DeOxit forever. Dozens of cans. Our shop (snowplows) had tons of it-salt kills electrics and connections. Never had it make anything sticky-ever.

Here is a picture of the backside of the switch. Looks like pink/black and pink brown go to run/stop. Red/yellow and red/white go to starter. Almost looks like one switch combined.

Would be happy to get all new switch if I could get one soon

I used CRC contact cleaner not Deoxit. I am in the middle of the TX desert with limited choices.

If the motor runs as long as you hold the switch down, is the switch triggering/untriggering (technical term) a relay to allow the motor to run? I'll admit I'm not much of an electrical person. I can handle a light bulb swap or maybe a battery change out for a flash light. More than that, I get dangerous. :grin:

Just to put an end to this.....
With nothing to lose I hacked up the whole assembly and got it apart. Cleaned it up and oiled it and put it back together...it works! Not sure for how long though. The run/stop switch is different than I expected. The actual switch is below the button.
I was able to pry the light button off but the menu button would not easily come off. Ended up trimming it to fit through the hole in the case. Not pretty but still functional. Below is a pic of the inside of anyone cares.
