Title: Room Temp Rocker Clearance
Post by: n3303j on February 16, 2025, 06:48:28 PM
Set my V11 rocker clearance at 0.004" Int & 0.006" Exh on a 90°F day in the summer.
Today I checked the clearance in my new unheated garage (36°F) and it was 0.006" Int & 0.008" Exh.

Does 54°F difference in system temperature make that much of a difference in rocker clearance?

I'm going over the rig in general. It's been over a year since I've had an indoor flat space for maintenance. Indoors sure is nice.

I replaced the friction steering damper with the Matris product. At inspection I noticed the damper was floating in the clamp. Went to tighten it up but the clamp wouldn't work. Turns out the aluminum "delaminated" under both screw heads. Almost as if it were plywood and a whole layer peeled off. I have never seen aluminum fail in this way. Anyone else ever have a Matris Steering Damper Clamp ever fail?

Specs are FOR room temperature. The bigger the difference the bigger the variance. Technically 90°F was a little warm, but 36°F is definitely too cold.

But have you operated the bike since you set it at 90°F? And if so how much because that obviously can have an affect too.
