Title: Spark plug cap?
Post by: Air-Cooled on March 14, 2025, 02:21:49 PM
Do any of the collectors/restorers know which of these caps came with the original V7 Sport?  I'm thinking the shorter one with the brown stem, but not certain.

One on right is stock Bosch one on left is what someone else was selling. No wire went around it. From my memory.

Can't help on originality for V7 but Bosch do/did make a brown stemmed version, my LM2 has them fitted and I believe they are the originals as of 1979.

Clearly labelled 'Bosch';

Those look like the stock ones that were on my 1970 R75/5. Might be able to get them from a BMW dealer. BMW is pretty good about stocking old parts.

Thanks guys!  Both the caps I showed in the original post are stamped Bosch. I'm gonna guess that the orange stemmed ones were for the later Lemans series, and the ones with the shorter brown stem were V7 Sport. Will be interested to hear what Atietam Classics thinks.

I don't think anything. I've used what works (NGK LB05F) vs. what was correct, on the V7 Sports I've restored. I never liked those metal shielded caps, every Guzzi I ever had with them on would misfire in the rain.

MG Cycle offers these: https://www.mgcycle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=37_157&products_id=3004

.. misfire in the rain.
First thing that I thought and a case of functionality over authenticity. Some things are better left in the past?  :huh:
(Fine for a show bike that is trailered everywhere - what a waste.)

I'm using the V7 Sport more as a show piece rather than to ride. It has about 9,000 miles on it, so functionality is not my primary goal. I ride my Stornello, and hope to get a v85TT this Fall.  The photos below appear to show the V7 Sport with the shorter brown stem.

I thought they used Marelli plug caps, the brown ones.

Beautiful. I’m a fan of NGK caps but in your case the original caps seem right.
