Title: Red valve covers
Post by: bronzestar1 on March 16, 2025, 03:19:58 PM
Found a set of red valve covers for my '23 V7 Special Edition.  Just makes it that much more "special" 😉!

If nothing else it brings attention to those who don't know the proper way to mount a Vtwin motor in a motorcycle.

odd....

i love the looks of the goose, however, the valve cover style has always been kinda "yuck" in my artistic eye.
both the v85 lid and the v7 lids look like kitchen frying pans,  I would Love to see a cover with fins, making the cylinders look more like old school air coolers.

Something like this atop:

I have even considered, fabing some up, but to purchase covers to edit and then make sand molds from is just too expensive.
and i can't be bothered to extract covers from my bike, as i ride it and don't want it open and down while i play smithy...

So i guess, it's not THAT bad...  just a miss.... IMHO

C'mon!  Don't sell yourself short.

Get a couple old two stroke cylinder heads from a 400-500cc single and some high temperature epoxy and go to town.....

Of course the "proper way" would to to TIG weld the two stroke heads to your valve covers, but why show off?  Be one of the guys!!

Cylinder heads with Radial fins would be the absolute best!!!!

After a few more minutes of thought, if you are really after that look, welding individual fins on to the valve covers would be a pretty easy task. Mill some shallow slots to get the placement right.  The time consuming task would be contouring the fins to get the right look.

Or machining a faux cylinder head to bolt on to the each valve cover would also be a pretty easy task.

If you spend some time researching it, it might be less expensive than you think.  Knowing machinists and weldors is always a good thing.

Check out the Big Fin Cylinder Heads that XR's Only used to sell for the air cooled Honda XR's.

I'd like to stick blue ones on my Cal 1400T.

There just doesn’t seem to be enough red elsewhere on the bike to carry the theme through.
A subtle accent here and there would bring the effect into balance.

Are you insulting the taste of all three who posted a pic of their "red heads", or one in particular?

Bingo, and the valve covers themselves are too big to be considered accents. I love red with neutrals, but I’m not a fan of just the red valve covers. Splash the red around in at least one more area, like the rear springs or the wheel rims!

So the way to do this is not by using using a cover to make a pattern to make a sand mold. Best way would be to 3D print the sand mold directly. What you need is a CAD file. I say that but I myself don't know how to do that, that's not a skill I have. But people exist that could whip out a solid model CAD file of a cylinder head. Then you'd take your CAD file and have sand molds 3D printed and poured. Good chance the pattern shop that prints the molds can pour them or they could tell you where to go to have that done. But you are correct, still $$$.

I have a '23 V7 Special, white with red stripe and grey accent, thought about getting my white Arai painted to match

I owned the helmet first, and bought the bike to match.

Took me awhile to find a pic but here is my wife’s 02 Stone that I bought as salvage.  I repaired it. It’s got Jackal body parts and Le Mans valve covers. I had asked her if she wanted black ones but we both like the red ones.
