Title: '03 California 1100 Aluminum Question
Post by: leafman60 on May 07, 2025, 07:00:21 AM
How do you remove the decorative cover on the starter solenoid??  Parts fiche shows it apparently just snaps over the solenoid but the throttle body blocks removal that way.

Can it just be pulled up at the back and worked out from under the throttle body?

This is a friends bike and I am not near him to have a look myself.  Any help is appreciated.

You need to remove the starter to gain room to unsnap the cover. Easy enough, just a couple of bolts.

It's been 10 years, but I'd swear I was able to pivot it off without starter removal. But I could be wrong. Just for safety if he has to ask this question I'd have him disconnect the battery first.

Remove the acorn nuts on top of the cover.

Remove the acorn nuts on top of the cover.

Like Wayne says, take acorn nuts off then tilt or twist /rotate to take cover off, I don’t recall having to remove starter bolts, but it would be easier, except than I would disconnect battery first.

If you need to move the starter, it should give enough room if you just loosen the two bolts without taking them out. The big wire to the solenoid comes directly from battery positive. Remove the negative lead from the battery first if you are concerned.
