Title: Barn Find T3
Post by: Moparnut72 on May 09, 2025, 09:45:58 AM
I have known for quite awhile that a guy in town has Guzzis. I didn't know what he had and had never stopped by to visit. I got word yesterday he was interested in selling so I went by to look. It turns out that he has an Eldorado, a V65 and a T3. It was hard to get very close to any of them due to all the junk piled up around them. The Eldo would need a lot of work from what I could see, looked like quite a bit of rust. He didn't want to sell that as he said would be a good bike for a sidecar but that is not going to happen as he gets around with a mobility scooter. The V65 looked to be in pretty good shape, it was on a lift table and easier to see but it is not a model I would be interested in. However a friend may be. The T3 was not terribly accessible but from what I could see was to be in descent shape. It was running when parked but who knows how long ago. Due to other commitments I wasn't able to hang around to investigate further. I plan on going back on Monday for further investigation.

Due to my lack of depth of knowledge on older Guzzis other than cursory reading here I have a couple of questions. What should I be looking for as to Guzzi issues, I am well versed in normal rejuvenation of older neglected bikes, outboards etc. He was non-committal as to what he wanted for it. What would be a non-insulting offer. Frozengoose who is a member here knows the owner from many years ago so if he sees this he may be able to provide some insight as well. Thanks in advance for any insight.

For a non running barn find 1000$ would be fair if you consider that it is worth 5 if in great shape with cylinders replaced.Maybe you can get it running and take your chances on whether to replace the cylinders.I had one with a couple hundred thousand on the originals and it ran fine.

If the cylinders are still the original chrome plated ones, they are regarded as time bombs, since the chrome flakes off and goes through the oil system. The standard best bet is to replace them with Nicasil plated cylinders. Previously, those would have been Gilardonis, but now the go-to items are made by Meteor in Italy. Crustycycle.com has them in stock, and mgcycle.com lists them as out of stock. $350 per side, but easy to install, and an immediate increase in resale value, if that matters.

I agree with T Kelly's suggestion of $1000 for an unknown T3.

From talking with Mark @ Moto Guzzi Classics, it seems chrome bores aren't as big of a "time bomb" in the dry western states as it is in the humid East, but I'd still replace them.

I am on a moto camping trip out of cell range. Back now , not home, cell range. I am going to take a better look on Monday. I was in a rush on Thursday to get out of town.
