Title: Is it the Dellorto?
Post by: freebirdbeachbum on May 15, 2025, 12:01:02 PM
After sitting for way too long, I wheeled my '65 Lodola out for a run and it didnt go well. My initial diagnosis was fuel starvation as she did everything right until she quit suddenly halfway down the street. After a few moments, she will start right back up and idle for several minutes and suddenly die.

I completely dissasembled and cleaned the carb in the ultrasonic and checked the petcocks and fuel cap vent and they were good but still no success. It seems that if I continue to "tickle" the carb when she starts to lose power she will continue to run.

Any and all suggestions appreciated.

Thanks. Ken

My first thought is fuel starvation. Check float level, check float pin is straight. Check choke is not staying open etc. Of course it could be lots of things. Make sure your ht leads are good, coils good and so on.
Hope you sort it.

Open the gas cap, the vent may be plugged.

Usually it's the idle jets after sitting a long time. Did you make sure they were totally clean?

The jets were my thought as well. I just went through a gummed up pair of Delorto VHBs. Guzzino sells jet cleaning tool for $8.00.

It's not the Dellorto or the fuel cap and forget what I said about ticking the carb to keep it running.

Turns out it's spitting out the key just enough to for contact to be flakey. I tried the key from my '68 Benelli and same story so it's not the key either. A phillips head screw driver with the same diameter of the key, but longer, works. Now to figure out why the key isnt holding in place.

Not a total waste of time troubleshooting. Now I have a clean carb and proper gap on the plug and points. I also verified the original regulator and condenser were good.

There is a Guzzi-Singles forum over on Google Groups.  You might consider asking your key question over there.
