Does anyone know if the stock mechanical advance unit is used when installing a Dyna S in a V50iii?
Thanks much!

Yep—I installed one on a Lario last year. The quick description from their webpage states:
The Dyna S is completely housed behind the ignition cover and uses a magnetic rotor with the original spark advancer, so the factory advance curve is maintained.
You can also download the instructions from their website:

Yes.
And because it is exposed to the air and the dust discharge from the front wheel they system requires annual disassembly, cleaning and lubrication.
If you mark the Dyna-S carefully you can remove and reinstall without altering the ignition timing.
Caution: The magnetic rotor can be installed TWO ways and only one way will run the engine. Mark carefully before you disassemble.

Pics on V50 III shows adv & then Dyna S on top. I love Dyna S compared to points BUT be careful to use 'quality' coils (OEM ones are good generally, but aftermarket resin ones maybe less)....one of my aftermarket 4 ohm resin coils went south/burnt out & blew out the associated Dyna S unit on the plate. I had to buy another Dyna S and replaced the coils with lucas metal ones...no probs since.

It's discounted a few bucks now.
I guess it's solid state switches, so no more spark nor condensers needed. One less thing to worry about.

That has to be the peak of irony , replacing failed coils with British Lucas coils
