Title: Guzzi Nevada starts but wont stay running
Post by: WildGuzziNicholas on June 30, 2025, 11:57:14 AM
I recently got a 2007 Guzzi Nevada. The thing starts after giving it a little throttle sometimes but wont stay running. I thought maybe it's the battery. It's got a lithium battery which I don't think is stock reading at 13.4v on my multimeter after using a charger. Can't get it to charge all the way up. I pulled the spark plugs and they are pretty fouled so it's running rich. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Have you checked the air intake?

Nick,
Will it run after it's thorough warm, like after 20 minutes?  Does your bike have the throttle stop lever (incorrectly called a "choke") to raise the idle speed until the engine is warm?

The '07 Nevada, that's fuel injected, right?

Joe

Nevada is same as Breva or V7 of that time. 13.4 V should start bike. Has an advance lever(choke) I would guess it needs a tune up, they don't run forever.  Airbox full of oil? Notorious for that. If you have tight valves it won't start either, back to tune up. Nevada's would also blow off the fuel hose in gas tank, make sure it's not a clear one used when new. Good luck.

Yes, air filter seems in good condition and not dirty at all. I also see no oil in airbox but I haven't taken it fully apart just down to the filter. Do I need to dive deeper in there?

Seems to start after 10+ attempts but will not idle. This bike is fuel injected and after looking it up to see if it has a "throttle stop lever" I do not think it does. My understanding is all of that is controlled via the ECU. I could be wrong though. Please correct me if I am and tell me where it's at.

Thanks for your reply.
Where is the "advance lever (choke)"? It is fuel injected and I see no choke. Tune up? What do you mean by that? Please tell me so I know where and what to look at. I am very new to this bike and fuel injected systems in general. I see no oil in airbox near the air filter. Am I looking in the right place? The airbox does seem pretty large. Where should I look and how do I know if it's a problem amount? The fuel hoses are black and not clear and seem connected as the bike does start but wont stay running. Plugs are fouled so it is getting gas.

Left handlebar by clutch lever. Nevada's are pretty good, No real issues.Tune up is plugs, set valves, sync throttle bodies, check TPS. Just like a carb bike.

The fast idle lever raises the rpm for the first start and about 2 minutes of driving is all you need after. Start with the lever pulled toward you and immediately drive off. Don’t start and then idle in place…push the lever away from you after a few blocks. Does not take long to warm up. Open the throttle a touch while starting cold.

Well... After reading another post about some elses Nevada that wouldn't idle; it seems that I had the same issue. As soon as I got home from work I took a look at it. The idle lever seems to have been removed for some reason, but someone also zip-tied the tip sensor upside down.   I disconnected the sensor and bam, she purrs like a angry kitten. :afro:

Thank you everyone for your replies and suggestions.

Keep the shiny side up! :thumb:
