Howdy, so my 2003 Cali Hydro has developed some weeping from the head gaskets. Light film of oil coming out of the fins.
So my first step will be retorque of the heads, and then if that doesn't fix it, new head haskets.
Now usually part of this would be a valve clearance setting, however with the snapped off adjusters from the recall parts, how do you check adjustment after?
In fact has anyone got the specs? I've have seen the procedure and specs before somewhere, but now of course when I need it I can't find it!

I'm curious what the professional guzzi techs like @guzzisteve will say. But I suspect, the very nature of hydraulic lifters means such a microscopic change in head position that should come from nothing but a retorque at this stage will not matter to the adjustment.
It begs the same question if you would say need to replace the head gasket. Though I again suspect the same answer might suffice, that the initial setting made when the kit was first installed should be sufficient.

You don't need retorqueing, you need to change the 4 orings on studs under rocker tower. To do this I use a slug, solid lifter used to set clearance after Hydro kit install. You can loosen locknut & turn with a needle nose pliers. Done after you torque heads down. I'll go get the spec from book.
There is also another way someone came up with, can't remember it now.
Edit----------- the clearance with the slug is .5mm
I made my own tools, aluminum tubing to get lifter out & rod to get it loose from tube. Slug I made from a lifter filled with epoxy.
You can also use a pencil magnet to lift lifter out.
Torque heads 3 stage to 35ftlbs so no need to retorque. All get this spec since 93 New World motor.
Oh Yea, forgot to say press down on rockers to pump oil out of lifter to get clearance to remove rocker pins

Orings sound more appealing than headgaskets :grin:
The lifter slug could be a challenge though, where am I going to get one of those from? I don't suppose you could measure your one for me? Diameter and length? I can easily get something made from a piece of steel to use

Adjusting the valves on a hydro motor is easy.
Turn screw in until it lightly seats. Turn 1-1/2 more turns. Lock nut. This gives you 1.5 mm preload as required.
The other problem is the rocker arms wear due to poor oiling caused by oil feed loss created by the extra oil feed journals for lifters. 4 additional places for oil to bleed out of the circuit.

Is there anyone you can recommend that can hard weld the rocker arm faces? I just took mine off and found wear on all four rockers.
