Title: Suggestions for disposing of used motorcycle gear
Post by: Travlr on November 28, 2025, 09:18:33 AM
Balance issues have caused my riding buddy to finally sell his motorcycle.  But he has a closet full of good riding gear.  He hates the idea of throwing it away.  Any suggestions of how to dispose of it would be appreciated.  Mike

FB Marketplace. People will take even used goods off your hands as long as the condition is decent.

If he's anywhere near Connecticut, Hamlin Cycles (Bethel, CT) has a motorcycle Clothing/Gear Consignment area upstairs in the shop.

The flea market on Adventure Rider is another good place to sell used gear. Shipping is usually required though.

A local Good Will or Habitat For Humanity is also a great place to donate these kinds of items to.

Some of them sell things on eBay, some may not.

I've purchased a couple of great motorcycle items from them on eBay.

Post it here and let us pick through it. I don't recall ever buying any of my gear new.

I have just returned from a trawl through the Swap Meet page.

I saw one jacket in about 45 lines of bikes and parts.

But I may as well post my size 13 Gasolinas with an extra buckle on there.

Why the extra buckle, a coworker asked?

Because it makes them more ... buckly.

That would be my vote...Also donating to any local Thrift Store that supports animal welfare... :thumb:

ADV, aka Adventure Rider has a thread in flea market titled "Free Gear for Military" it has been expanded to all first responders.   It's like this,,,you can never convince a 19 year old Corporal that he needs to drop $1000 on good boots, gloves pants jacket, Ironically he will drop a K on a Helmut. At that age you are bulletproof and broke. Extra or special purpose gear just doesn't come into the mix.

This thread offers serviceable gear to E-5 and below, and less than 5 year First Responders  for only the cost of shipping.

It's a great way to pass on the need and habit of good gear to young riders.

https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/free-to-active-military-thread.568314/

I routinely pass on serviceable gear that needs a home to servicemen and women all over the world, and sometimes I get awesome photos from grateful Privates that are beaming with pride.

A few friends of mine, Mark & Janine, have a wonderful motorcycle only campground here in the mountains of North Carolina, Mountainview Motorcycle Campground, Elk Park NC. Theyare primarily an ADV location but road riders are alway there too. They have a collection area where riders donate their used gear for someone else to ejoy juast as they did....it's a "pay forward" thing going on. I have oicked up things for free anf also have given to others too. It's just a cool way to reciprocate items. If it's something he's interested in, here's the contact info https://tdubclub.com/mountain-view-motorcycle-campground-elk-park-north-carolina/ Speak with Janine, she's a real peach, and she will be more than happen to help out.
