So I wanted to go for a ride today and as soon as I started the bike, it was surging every second about 100-200 rpms. I took it for a ride and I could feel the bike surging underneath me slightly. I get to a red light and it is running rough and stalls. I limp it home and have to hold the rpms at 2k just to keep it from stalling at lights. I get home and the left muffler is smoking from under the heat shield, but the right side is not. I also just noticed that there is more discoloration on the left muffler than the right. this leads me to believe the left muffler was hotter than the right side. I pulled the plugs and both were normal color. Of course I filled the tank so it's heavy, but as I was moving it away from the frame, a piece of hose fell out from under the tank. I found that it came from the tank and runs to the carbon cannister underneath. Now I don't know if it was cracked and tore while moving the tank, or it was fine and I tore it moving the tank. If that particular hose was already cracked, could it be the reason for the surging and stalling? Since it's fuel injected, the system has to be air tight and under pressure to work properly and is compromised with a cracked hose in the system. I would really appreciate all your help. Thanks.
Update. Now when I start it, it starts up and revs to 3k rpm and dies. Same thing every time.

Try a new hose maybe solve the problem?

I would also spray around your intake manifolds with starter fluid to see if you have a vacuum leak around there.

Joseph right?
I'm pretty sure I answered you on FB a little bit ago (and a couple of times):
Start with basics:
* check/charge battery, and connections/grounds
* Make sure no spark plug/wire is arcing.
* Check/wipe oil out of air box and throttle body bore
* If it still does this at next startup I'd be tempted to drain the tank and refill with fresh fuel to see if that changes it.
Then, if none of this helps, we can start thinking about more complicated things. But usually it's something simple.

What MY, make & model...just wondering.

I believe
2015 V7 Special, 8800 miles, 3rd owner.

yes, it's a 2015 V7 Special. Thanks.

Joseph, your bike is just like mine. Mine's a '14 but they are the same. As you get responses to your requests for help on this forum, I'd especially suggest paying attention to Kev's. He's been riding a single-throttle-body V7 like yours for years and is mechanically sophisticated plus he genuinely likes that bike. Listen to Kev. Among others.

Going back into time with a weak memory...
The 2015 sometimes suffered from bad voltage regulators and will cook the cam position sensors. Put a good digital volt meter on the battery terminals and see that you don't go over 14 -14.8 volts at 3-4000 RPM.
Next some killed the spark plug connectors / boots. Most replaced them with new connectors and plugs. Mine had horribly corroded the screw on connector on one side only.

thanks. Someone on FB mentioned that these bikes also suffer from spark plug cap issues? I'm guessing that the electrical connection between the spark plug lead can intermittently lose contact with the plug resulting in unburnt fuel getting burned by the catalytic converter which is why my left muffler was smoking and more discolored than the right side which wasn't smoking at all when I got it home. Are you aware of these issues? Thanks.

Yup, that was my #2 in first post here and I think on FB also.

We replaced quite a few 2015 V7 spark plug caps at Hamlin's shop-including mine.
