Title: 2008 Norge SERVICE Light & CODE...?
Post by: radguzzi on January 08, 2026, 07:55:21 PM

I have a recently acquired 2008 Norge, 30k miles.  I have begun the procedure of start up maintenance, oil and filter, clean the pan etc.
When warming the oil for draining the dash shot this Red Triangle light and the SERVICE light appeared.

Well I have no Owner's Manual but I do have the pdf Service Station Manual.  I also do not have the CODE to enter into the dash.  The previous owner does not have either the manual or the Code and I have a message into him to ask if could contact the original owner with the hopes that he has it.

The "Resetting the CODE" description below seems to need more than I can provide.

How do I go about entering a CODE and resetting the Red Triangle to make that go away...?

I was able to figure out that the Mode Multi Function Switch to access the Diagnostics but that is as far as I can get.

Appreciate any help here.
Thanks,
Rob

From the Service Manual...

Diagnosis

Changing the CODE

If you know the code, just enter it and then a new code that will be automatically stored in the memory.

If the vehicle is new, the user code is: 00000 Resetting the CODE This function is used to set a new code when the old one is not available; in this case, at least two of the programmed keys have to be inserted in the ignition lock.

After the first key has been inserted, the second one is requested with the following message:INSERT KEY II
If the second key is not inserted within 20 seconds, the operation is finished.

After recognizing the second key, the new code is required with the message:ENTER NEW CODEOnce the operation is finished, the instrument panel goes back to the SET-UP menu.

DIAGNOSIS
Access to this menu (diagnosis functions), for the technical service only, after requesting a service code.
It will read: ENTER THE SERVICE CODE the code is: 28315

The functions in this menu are
• Exit
• ECU errors
• Instrument Panel Errors
• Delete errors
• Reset Service
• Update
• Change Keys

If you have both keys, you should be able to reset the code with the instructions you posted.

The manuals can be found at Cadre Cycle

The Norge code is 28315...

You can hold the Mode button to the right for a few seconds or hold it pressed in for a few seconds and that will give you access to the Trip 1, Trip 2 and then eventually the Service menu where you can go in and read the ECU errors.

Most likely the Service message is the Oil Pressure Sensor...but the only way to know for sure is to connect Guzzidiag and read the Faults.  It could be also an air/fuel sensor on the airbox.

You only need the Service Code to read and reset errors. As PJRP said, service code for the Norge is 28315 use the toggle switch to get to the Menu and Service section.

You need both a service code 28315 AND the User/Key Code if you want to change the User/Key Code.

Oil Pressure Switch I use  - (Borg Warner) S4065

ENGINE OIL SENSOR INFO
The dashboard will reveal oil pressure faults as well as sensor and other faults. The oil sensor fault is detected with engine stopped and key in on position. This fault is indicated by lighting the warning “service” and will remain lit with engine running. Abnormal oil pressure is indicated with engine running at an rpm higher than 2000 rpm and the sensor conducting (shorted). In this case the fault is indicated by lighting the icon “oilcan”. In both cases codes are stored in the diagnostic memory of the dash.

DASHBOARD ERRORS
DSB 01 Immobiliser fault: key code read but not recognised or key code not read
DSB 02 Key not present or transponder broken
DSB 03 Immobiliser fault: Antenna broken (open or short-circuit)

I have another writeup for how to program your keys and set a new user code.

I appreciate all the input on this. I am not a luddite but this type of diagnostic troubleshooting is new to me.
Thanks all.

I do not have the keys... Where does one find them...?

Thanks

================

I was able to enter the 28315 however, that does not clear the SERVICE, I did not yet read the ECU Errors, I will do that.

So do I need the Guzzidiag app or program to go any farther...?

Thanks

====================

You only need the Service Code to read and reset errors. As PJRP said, service code for the Norge is 28315 use the toggle switch to get to the Menu and Service section.

You need both a service code 28315 AND the User/Key Code if you want to change the User/Key Code.

How do I obtain the User/Key Codes if, as in this case, the previous owner must have, I do not...

Another point, after I entered the 28315, I had options to clear errors which did not work,  Now, I fully admit that I have no clue what I am doing here but I can follow good, clear instructions well.

And I went $5 more than the suggested 20 bucks...

Thanks,
Rob

Reading this, I think your confused by KEY CODE and DIAGNOSTIC/SERVICE code.

Key code is to add or change the keys or the USER code for when the key will not work and you need to enter the user code to start the bike. Diagnostic/Service is to get into the dash diagnostics to read and clear codes as well as the SERVICE icon for when you need an oil change.

Hope this helps,
Tom

Welcome to the club ;-)

Slow down a bit.

If  you are getting in with the service code, there are menus to read and clear the error messages.  Go ahead in, read and report the codes here. If you are clearing and it is coming back, it is likely the OPS, but best to read and record all the codes.

You ONLY need the user or key code if you plan to change the user code, register keys. 99% is all just the Diagnosis or service code 28315.

In my post I gave a quick way to check on the oil pressure switch which is likely your problem.  Best is to read the active codes in the dash and ECY and report back.

Hey Tom,
I am indeed a bit confused, possibly making more of this then I need to but, I can learn.  I am in hopes to hear from the original owner for the Key(s)...

The engine starts and runs fine.

That Red Triangle has me wondering what it is all about and how to clear it and I will try to obtain and understand the Guzzidiag thing...

If the SERVICE code is (hopefully) for an oil change, I just did that with the filter and would like to clear that as well.

Thanks.
Back soon,
Rob

The red triangle And service message have nothing to do with needing an oil change. It is an error code And most commonly, is due to as mentioned several times before a bad oil pressure sensor. There's a wrench that pops up for the service reminder.

Using the service code or diagnosis code, you can read what the errors are and clear them.

The user code or a key code again, is only necessary if you want to change the user code or program new keys.

What Bulldog9 said.....

Guizzidiag for your bike is limited. I may not be using the correct names here, but... Guzzidiag will read the engine ECU, but not the Dash computer.

When I need to clear the Service Icon, I need to use the multifunction switch and go into the dash computer and scroll to what I need.

AS mentioned, you need to use the service code to read the errors in the dash. Again as mentioned, as well as buy Bulldog9, your issue is likely a bad oil pressure sender.

The computer wants to see zero oil pressure at key on and a certain amount with the engine running. If it sees oil pressure a key on, the code is thrown.

If the computer sees zero oil pressure at key on AND zero pressure at a certain rpm, it throws another code number  meaning the oil pump is likely bad or the oil pan gasket has failed or the sender is bad.

Hope this helps,
Tom
