Title: Best looking motorcycle

And the only one, apart from the XS1100, that I prefer in black.

By how much did it beat out the V100 moto guzzi?

In black, naturally.

To me, some of the most beautiful motorcycles are the:

V10 Centauro - had one in BGG
V12 Griso - had one in gloss pearl white
1400 Eldorado - have one in black

If you are asking what is the best looking motorcycle with due regard for aesthetics, rideability, timeless appeal, then the V11 Sport.
Dave Swanson’s or Liam Mc Gregor’s example.
If I had either one, I would do another set of wire wheels and if I could walk away with one of them…?

I love the Guzzi's, obviously. But, I've always thought the 1950's era Indian Chief is the best looking motorcycle ever built.

Then, Indian releases this new 2026 Chief Vintage (below) and I'm like...holy crap. That's one good looking scoot too.

In fact, ever since I can remember I've been saying if I didn't ride a Guzzi, I'd be on an Indian. Well, I have an Indian and 3 Guzzi's. But, I don't have the Indian I've always lusted after, but who actually does?

Best looking Guzzi only? 100% the loopframes. Here's Gary Jenkins' 71 Ambo that I've always thought was drop dead gorgeous.

There are attributes of people and of things where the overwhelming majority say something is beautiful.
All while that same group won’t come to that same conclusion with another design.

I think an interesting twist on this thread would be this..
Instead of nominating the “best looking” motorcycle, change it to read …
The bike that you you can have to suit your requirements for the rest of your biking life. This would then mean that the bike had to be attractive to you, comfortable enough to see you out, timeless in its appeal ( because we all change).
But when you choose, it is the ONLY bike you will have until the end.
It’s one thing to say that a bike is the best looking, but if you can’t “get with it….”
Then it all changes.
I now think Dave Swanson’s V11 Sport is not only more desireable than an MGS 01, but also better looking.
I never would have thought so.
I think Margot Robbie is absolutely beautiful, but the newsreader on our local channel is more attractive.
Bikes are like that, I don’t think my Norge is more attractive than Dave’s V11 Sport, but I would not swap mine for his, beauty comes with your level of attachment and I would think my Norge is more attractive 1000 km North of the Arctic circle than the V11 Sport, yet on the foreshore at Cairns (read Malibu), it would be the opposite.
There’s a lot involved.

in general, the more body work a bike has, the less attractive i find it.

Two exceptions might be a Ducati 916, and the first generaltion of Yamaha YZF 1000, 1999 IIRC.

As for all the exotics, covering up those frames is an unforgivable sin IMO.

My choice of the best looking motorcycle, for the last 30+ years and before (Faffi) & after (Huzo) any arbitrary guidelines, is my old V7 Sport-

(https://i.ibb.co/v6CXKLwM/IMG-2979.png) (https://ibb.co/v6CXKLwM)

I’ve mentioned before that I believe the original V7 Sport is one of the best motorcycle compositions- in terms of symmetry, the use of element repetition to reinforce the overall design, economy of elements and enduring relevance, to name only a few reasons- that has ever been achieved.  It does not pretend to be something it is not or to do things it cannot do and it does many things very well.  The V7 Sport is the original design that has been copied & continues to be copied 55 years later….

This specific bike has changed little cosmetically (only a frame repaint) since I got it.   Restoring it would sanitize where it’s been, what it’s done and what it represents to me. If I was faced with only having one bike for the rest of my life, whatever the reason(s) may be, it would be a simple decision to make.   Even if I could never ride it again, I will own this machine until I die.

For most of us getting a bike just right is an ongoing process. Have had the T-3 since late 89 and been messing with it the whole time trying to get it just right. Very close currently.

I pity those who went for a Magni when they become 80+

But your twist certainly brings up the most important aspect; functionality. Comfort, reliability, ease of maintenance, parts availability and more. The wise choice may be electrical for those under 40, but you never know - petrol (or suitable substitutes) may still be available 40-50 years from now.

Ignoring that, I would still have to think long and hard before I can come up with an answer. Which would probably change every week anyway :lipsrsealed:

Flat out best looking motorcycle I've ever owned - Ducati 916.  Best looking motorcycle that I could comfortably use on a daily basis for the rest of my days - my blue '21 V7 Special!  :)

My '73 Commando is nice looking as well...and so is my '76 CB400F.  But the V7 is better overall than either of them.  My wife would argue that the best looking motorcycle AND comfortable to ride for the rest of HER life is her red Ducati Diavel.

Having giving the rest-of-my-life-bike a second thought, I have two answers:

1. If it must be kept stock: Honda NT700V Deauville
2. If I can modify and have somebody pay for them: Guzzi V9 Roamer with a USD fully adjustable Ohlins fork, Ohlins fully adjustable shocks, both items set up for me. 3-spoke lightweight front wheel, 2.50x19, together with a matching rear wheel, 3.50x18. Tilt the engine up at the front/down at the rear to raise the rear without changing the angle of the swingarm relative to the gearbox. Ditch ABS and TC. Keep the single disc front brake, replace rear brake with drum from Honda VT500. Fit a 6-gal fuel tank styled like that of the LM I. Fit a proper seat that is comfortable. Move pegs back and up where they belong and fit a narrower, 2 in lower set of handlebars. Fit small saddlebags similar to the ones on the CBX ProLink and GL500/650. Instruments from the first edition V7 850 Special. Remove the cat from the exhaust. I think we are getting there.

B
I thought (perhaps incorrectly) that this thread was about the best looking bike? Most comfortable is an entirely different subject.

I’d agree with huzo & guzzisteve on the Sport 1100i or Daytona as the best looking Guzzis ever built. I’d also say the MGS01 Corse…but as it wasn’t widely available and cost a mint, I don’t know that it should be included.

The Magni…while I do absolutely love it from an aesthetic perspective, is a “tuner” bike and not an OEM Guzzi. Much like a Saleen Mustang or AC Schnitzer BMW.

Best looking bike ever? In my opinion and many others, Ducati 916. I’d add in all of that family; 996,998 & 748. It wasn’t like anything that came before it.

MCN chose it as the greatest motorcycle ever. I don’t know that is, but I certainly think it’s the best looking bike ever.

One of the worst motorcycle decisions I ever made was to trade a fellow WG forum member my gorgeous blue & silver V11 Bassa for his red V11 Sport Naked.
I absolutely loved the Bassa and I absolutely hated the V11 Sport Naked.
I had to force myself to put 100 miles on the Sport Naked for the year I had it.

I had my 916 back when they were "new."  Sold it in 2006.  Two years ago I briefly considered buying one but came to the conclusion that from a "practical" point of view for me nowadays, it made no sense at all.  But it's the only bike I've ever owned over MANY years that I occasionally wish I hadn't sold.  Never missed any of the others.

Hmmm...I wouldn't mind having a 916 on display in my hobby room... ;)  Just did a quick price check...I should have kept mine; they are too expensive now!!! :(

Then again, it might be because it reminds me of my Yamaha Morphous:

in general, the more body work a bike has, the less attractive i find it.

Two exceptions might be a Ducati 916, and the first generaltion of Yamaha YZF 1000, 1999 IIRC.

As for all the exotics, covering up those frames is an unforgivable sin IMO.

Yeah me.
I contend that “best looking” Is a function of how “attractive” it is to you. If I see a bike that has nice lines, but I perceive it to be an unreliable, unstable, borderline death trap, then I find it unattractive and thereby not good looking.
Now such a bike as described above, would not be one that I would tie myself to for the rest of my run and that’s why I linked “good looking” with desire for long term involvement.
The “look” of a bike is a function of its desireability. I guess it’s a definition thing…

I had two different Bassas, loved them both. IMHO, the Bassa aesthetics corrected everything I didn’t like about the EV. Plus it had adjustable forks and tubeless spoked wheels. I swapped out the Bassa foot peg subframes for the EV floorboard subframes. I also swapped out the wide Bassa handlebars for an EV set. I had all three factory windshields as well as a Swanee Aerofoil. I also had the Bassa specific Swiss made leather saddlebags plus a few Agustini items that added a few nice touches as well. Of course the polished Mistral mufflers added the right sound. I even had a G&G deep oil dump with a spin on oil filter as well as a modified riders seat by a WG forum member.
I did all this to the black 1999 and when I totaled it out, I removed all these items before the bike was picked up by the junk yard. I knew I’d get another Bassa which I did. A 2000 blue & silver one.
After a few years I bought a 2000 blue & silver Honda Valkyrie Interstate and the world's most enhanced 2000 blue & silver Bassa quite sadly turned into a garage queen.
The Valkyrie turned into our two up go to bike of choice.
After seeing the Bassa get lonely in the garage I traded it even with a WG member for his V11 Sport Naked.
Why did I hate that V11 Sport so much? It was, to me, a torture rack. The fellow WG forum member drove off with the Bassa on his trailer. As soon as I threw a leg over the seat of that V11 Sport Naked I knew I made a terrible mistake.
After keeping the Sport Naked for a year and forcing myself to ride it 100 miles, I gladly traded it off on a new V12 8V Griso.

There are a lot of pretty bike pics here. Most I'd love to have in my trophy room. But that is where they belong as they would cripple most people on a good days ride. As to good looking and can ride it 200-500 miles a day for the rest of my life the choice is clear as far as Guzzis go. 2001-04 EV, V85. End of story.

It's funny, I was just the opposite.  I had a Bassa for awhile, but was never comfortable on it.  Beautiful bike, but the Bar-Seat-Peg relationship didn't work for me, even after trying different seat and bars.

Sport 1100 and V11 LeMans on the other hand, saw tens of thousands of miles.  Both were wonderful bikes.  The V11 LeMans was a great 2-up sport-tourer.  Both kept their stock bars, seats, and pegs.  I miss them both.

True enough.  Neither can be debated, cause we're 100% right, and the other guy is 100% wrong!!  Just like 2 + 2 = 4!  True by definition!

Hopefully it will always be like that.  Imagine a world where everywhere you go, all you meet are clones of yourself.

Yes, Victory motorcycles are crazy low priced. People are worried about parts.
What parts, you never needed a Victory dealer for any regular maintenance item anyway.

A friend bought a Plymouth Superbird for exactly that reason - easy to find in a parking lot!!  https://images.mecum.com/image/upload/c_fill,f_auto,g_center,q_auto,w_1600,h_899/v1693237815/auctions/FL24/1098926/817405.jpg?

Funny how a car that sat mostly unsold in 1970 is worth so much money today.

I sold a 1966 Plymouth Belvedere Street Hemi for 2500 bucks...  Who knew?    :weiner:

Honda Hawk 650GT and VF1000R, Harley XLCR1000 and XR1000 are just a few bikes that sprung to mind that were difficult to sell as new, but are valuable today.

This thread would have gone in a completely different direction if you’d asked for the most desireable motorcycle.
Desire constructs a conglomerate of each emotion and spits out an answer.
Here’s something we can all understand…
Here is an international Australian film star…
(https://i.ibb.co/R4gjS1P4/IMG-5228.png) (https://ibb.co/R4gjS1P4)

Here is a local newsreader…
(https://i.ibb.co/r2qttb3Z/IMG-5229.png) (https://ibb.co/r2qttb3Z)

If you asked anyone to define who is going to be the “best looking”, most would claim that #1 Margot, would take it out, but I contend that #2 Edwina is more “attractive”.
One gives a sense of unreachability yet the theoretically attainable seems more attractive.
Have you ever been in a venue and your eye is drawn to someone and you subconsciously form an opinion as to their attractiveness which may be not entirely complimentary..
Then you find out a bit later that they are asking after you with some level of intent and suddenly they appear more beautiful.
Now back to bikes..
For a bike to be “good looking”, it must be accessible, a proper fit for your needs and something you have a realistic chance to form a bond with.
So…
Best looking ?

(https://i.ibb.co/zVSTR4SC/IMG-2150.png) (https://ibb.co/zVSTR4SC)

Rather ordinary, fat in the wrong places, totally familiar in the dark and has never belonged to anyone else…
Oh and BTW..
That Norge photo is at 210,000 km.

Huzo your Norge is a beautiful bike especially loaded for a big ride.I rode a brown t3 for a few years and the ride made up for the look, you have the best of both worlds with your Norge.

I fell in love with this bike when I saw it in 1978 at the Yamaha Dealer down the street from my High School...... Made the dream come alive in 1986, had it painted Pearl white in 1990.

There are only two obvious things that are not stock on my Norge..
The wheels and the pipe.
But what makes it special (to me) is this…

So in addition to the obvious gratuitous display of self engrandissment, there is a point here..
The best looking bike is the one you have the deepest attachment with..

Maybe not one of the best looking motorcycles, but the 1100 Sport definitely belongs into the "Eye candy" category....

I agree, always found the 1100 way better looking than the 1000 Daytona.
