So during the thread from Steve about cheap, sorry value, Guzzi for sale, I mentioned I would prefer just sharing bikes with known accomplices in crime instead of purchasing, registration, insure and maintenance of said single track vehicles.

Now i don’t know about you, I could host Experiences trundling around my neck of the woods for people.
I could also happily lend my vehicles out, with insurance cover, like the list given above.

Really flipping things upside down to rent your beloved children out to possible heathens with knuckle hair grazing the floor..
But I’m considering it. Both renting and renting out.
Any experience with this out there?

I used Riders-Share for a few years, starting in 2019. I rented a bike to see if I liked it (because demo rides are always too short!). The experience as a renter was great for me. The bike was in good shape, and the owner was easy to work with.
I decided to rent my new bike out to help cover the cost. Most of the experiences were very positive. I only had one guy drop the bike in a gravel parking lot. Riders-Share insurance claim was super easy and paid for replacement parts without question. I added another bike, and rented it out too (dual sport).
On the other hand, A couple of the guys I rented to told me about issues they had from other owners who would rent their bikes out in poor condition (bad chains, bald tires, etc.). The review/rating system helps with that.
I had an interesting renting experience a couple years ago. I went to visit my dad in San Diego, and wanted to have some fun on two wheels. I was also interested in buying a KTM 690, so that's what I looked to rent. I found one that looked good, owner had good reviews. It turned out the bike had an overheating issue. The owner was really good about it and even swapped the 690 out for another bike.
I think a lot of the experience is affected by how communicative and open both parties are. I did cancel a booking once because something seemed off about the renter. New to the system, no reviews, questionable riding experience.
Eventually, I stopped because My bikes were popular, and I was finding things getting booked and then leaving me with no bike to ride. I tried to make sure that didn't happen, but I got tired of monitoring and updating the calendars constantly. The money I made was decent. It paid for tires, parts, and trips. In the end, I determined that it was no longer worth the hassle to me.

My son used it once and reported a good experience. This was in SoCal. Myself on the other had, I have trust issues (grumpy old man syndrome) so it would not work for me either way.
