Title: low HP power? Cali 1100ev 1998
Post by: DeAndre on March 19, 2026, 06:36:49 AM
G'Day Forum.

i ride a 98 Cali 11ev....over winter a problem came up. I had to clean out my tank, replace the filter and fuel pump..so far so good but now, she runs well until about 110 k's. To reach 130kph or above is a nightmare and even a small car and trucks beats me.
So we also cleaned out the injectors but still the problem persists. Also to mention is that sometimes she completley sets out. Sometimes only for a few seconds....sometime s I have to stop on the side, wait a bit and restart.... fuelpump is working as i hear the pump doing its job.

I am clueless now to what it could be and even my mechanic says he never seen that kind of mystery.

the only thing we didnt replace is the fuel pressure regulator.

Anyone having experienced those problems?

André

There may be more but two possibilities occurred to me based on personal experience:

1. A clogged fuel filter would produce the symptoms you described.   Sometimes "cleaning" a fuel tank can actually cause deposits on the inner surface of the tank - that weren't causing any problems - to detach and clog a new filter.

2. A clogged fuel tank vent can cause the same problem.

I've had both produce the exact symptoms you described...

I’d suspect the vent as well. Try riding it with the tank cap open.

On the vent line there is a tip over valve, may be no good, delete it. How about air cleaner? Might want to set valves too.

I think there is a screen in the top of the fuel pump. I bet you didn't clean it. And you might just check the filter again you might have missed some junk.
Next the TPS might need replacing.

+1 on the tank venting.

The fuel filter is an odd situation.  The pump runs continuously so there is a huge filter located under the main frame tube.  However, the electric fuel petcock has a very tiny screen filter on top.  All of the fuel that runs through the huge filter has to come through the tiny petcock filter first.  I know you 'cleaned' the tank, but remove the petcock and tend to that screen and the petcock valve as well.  Consider change to a manual petcock.

Also, if you have the electric petcock....
I have seen them still run even if the petcock has failed. The pump has enough suction to pull it open a bit. But they run poorly.
Do you hear the loud 'clunk' from the petcock when you turn on the key?
