Title: New Mexico RALLYS
Post by: Grabcon on April 13, 2026, 08:40:38 AM
This is off the MGNOC site. What's up with this? Two rallies same time next door to each other, literally next door. Clarification would be nice.

AUG 13 TO AUG 16, 2026
NEW MEXICO STATE RALLY GATHERING

Held at the campgrounds at the Datil store in Datil, New Mexico. This is an encore gathering. $20 for camping only. Giving away one to three bikes this year. For questions call State Rep Matt Forslund at: 505-850-8383.

AUG 14 TO AUG 16, 2026
NEW MEXICO STATE RALLY

To be held at the Group Site at the Datil Wells Campground in Datil, New Mexico. Awards, prizes, poker run, and good riding all around, but you knew that. Cost (no preregistration): $60 includes: Camping fees at the Datil Wells group site only for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Thursday night dinner you are on your own, but Friday night dinner brings hot dogs (so what else is new?), and Saturday night dinner is brisket and beans! It doesn't get much better than that. Actually, it could, but it is not going to. Coffee will be available on Saturday and Sunday mornings - unless it isn't. Derral McDaniel 520-349-6957.

Baffles me too...last time I saw Matt he stated he was not going to sponsor GRIN rally anymore but then the MGNOC newsletter popped up with an ad for GRIN and the ad for the other.
I called the second person to offer assistance if needed since I live here but the reception was a little frosty, to say the least.

I recommend calling Matt AND MGNOC honcho Frank Wedge to get the straight poop.

Matt indicated last year that it would be his last full-on rally, but was willing to assist anyone willing to take the reigns. Not having heard anything from anyone, he planned on doing a more low-key gathering this year in lieu of doing rally. Matt is still the NM Guzzi rep.  Usual time and place, 3 giveaway bikes this year, leftover t-shirts and trophies, etc.

For some odd reason, Darrel (Southern Arizona MGNOC rep) decided to do his own thing and create a New Mexico rally literally a few miles from where Matt usually sets up his annual rally.  Not sure why Darrel felt compelled to do a rally in New Mexico vice Southern Arizona, but at no time did he ever bother coordinating with Matt on any of his efforts. Kind of a weird thing to do, for lack of other words.

Matt asked Frank Wedge to step in, but Frank didn't want to get involved.  So now you have two Guzzi events in Datil, NM at the same time.

I don't know Darrel, but I do know Matt well. Well enough to say that Matt will give you the shirt off his back and will go well out of his way to help a fellow Guzzista.

This is the response I got from Frank.

"Yes. Long story. Both can be attended. Organized by two different people."
