Title: 2007 Breva….tell me what to look for
Post by: sdcr on April 14, 2026, 05:20:38 PM
I have a line on a clean, 10,000 mile Breva. It’s a 2007, and is stock except for a slip on. Owner says the dash is original and fine, and he has rigged something to make it start,( button under the seat, wired to battery and starter)

Tell me what I should look, ask about. It’s 200 miles away.

750 or a 'big' one?

Talking about the dash means big one. The CARC ones has dashes that failed more often than normal.

I should have said, it’s an 1100.

The slip on I believe is called a GPR.

Also, wondering if the Breva Sport, is that much different than the 1100?

I have a 1200 sport.  I think it’s basically the same bike except for larger motor, fairing and seat cowl and the forks are fully adjustable with tin coated forks.  Mines a 2008 with the original gauges so some hold up ok, I think the important thing is not to let them get wet.  If I’m going to be parking in the rain I cover them. I’m the second owner and have put 13,000 miles since I bought it.  These have really nice shifting transmissions and some have covered very high miles.  The best of the 2 valve motors.

Generally yup, though I did replace one on my 750. ;-)

1200 Sport claims 5 more hp.

The rear suspension linkage should have been disassembled and lubed before now, so ask about it. Not hard to do, but request a discount if appropriate; look for a video on YouTube for the procedure on the very similar Norge of that era.

This dash seem less liable to moisture failure than the Griso one.

Sure, anything CAN, but I was playing the odds.

OP - I don't like his solution to Startus Interruptus. But past that there aren't a lot of things to worry about on em. Plastic tank might deform a little. The dash failures are major because they are expensive.

Personally I found mine to be hot as hell in warm weather. It just didn't move air well around the rider. But it was a really solid bike to pound miles or attack curves.

Neither do I, as it doesn’t sound like the fix that ive heard of on this board. But, owner says it works, and the starter only acts up when it’s cold out.

I wasn’t aware that they are hot, as it doesn’t have bodywork…who knew :thumb:

Trust me, I never figured it out.

Why were the Norge owners not bitching about temps when I didn't have a fairing but I was sweating in my shorts above maybe 75°F.

The B11 was unique in that it was the only CARC with the cat-con in the collector under the rider, so I replaced that with just a pipe, but it was not enough.

I remapped it, but that didn't change temps.

It was weird riding side by side with one of my Harleys and that rider was fine while I was sweating.

I sold it and changed to my current V7 Smallblock and it was such a relief from a heat standpoint.

Check out “Norge service schedule”.
It’ll work for the thing you have.

John,

FWIW, Hamlin has Bulldog’s former 1200 Sport for sale at his dealership.  High miles, but fully sorted and serviced.  He added a windshield and bags as well.  If I recall correctly - $3K.

Hamlin has a 1200 Sport used for sale.  I know the guy who traded it in.  Solid owner.  Jim went thru the bike and told me it's all set to go.  You'll KNOW the bike is ready with no surprise.  That may work for you.

he also has a Breva 1100.

I always covered my dash when I was it.. Still do on my current 2007 Aprilia factory.. Same dash on it
My 1100 was a great bike overall. The 1100 engine is a sweetheart. Mine had about 2700 mils on it,
and it came with brand new Q-3 plus tires on it.. Best $3500 motorcycle I have owned.

Kev, Cam, King, thanks for all the tips. Those Hamlin bikes look good.
Hamlin is a little closer than the one I posted about also.

I was just up there this past weekend getting my V85 serviced.  I saw it (1200) on the floor, very clean and well cared for.  Steve’s baby Breva was also there with a SOLD sign on it.

Thanks again. The Guzzi demo truck is coming to town, about 5 miles from my house. Never had a dealer this close.
Anyway, going to try to ride some of the new product.

Have owned a 2008 1200 Sport since 2013. ALL 1100 Breva owners complained about the cat heat. Thankfully Guzzi changed the location of the cat on the 1200 Sport and there’s NO heat issue with it. Zero. 53,000 and no problems except added the Startus Interuptus when the “no start” happened twice in two weeks. Problem solved.

I remember sitting on the sport in a dealership back in ‘08.  One year bike, black and red.  Some day they’ll be rare. Or not.

I always reckoned the grizzles about how hot the Norge is, is just a total crock. It’s the personality of the bike and you become part of the experience, I find it bonds you with it. Seems strange to me that people buy a motorbike, then take steps to insulate themselves from the sensory inputs that make a bike what it is.
I’ve had my Norge 18 years and 230,000 km, it feels just right to me.
My young bloke had this for a while
(https://i.ibb.co/SDkRFcKb/IMG-2884.png) (https://ibb.co/SDkRFcKb)

I rode it a fair bit and I’m perplexed as to what the whining is all about.

We never got the 8V over here.  I’d bet Hamlin would throw one in.  His custom bikes on the Norge/Breva platform are insane.  He’s built a naked Breva/Norge with a 1400 motor.

I don't know if the 1200 or the Norge was different, but it wasn't the cat on the B11 that was the problem.

I've not owned a single other bike that left me swampy in the shorts, even in the dead of summer.

Not any of 7 Harleys/Buell

Not the other 3 Guzzis

Not the 3 BMWs

Not the Ducati

Not the various JAPanInc products I had over the years

Not any of the many demos and press bikes from all of the above, and Indian, and Victory.

It seemed to be a simple formula of complete lack of airflow anywhere near the trousers,b perhaps combined with some of the radiating engine heat.

Never solved it. But enjoyed it each winter.

I got a Norge from Jim.  He did the forks and rear suspension for me and it absolutely RAILED.  But it was way too hot for me.  Could not use it from late June to October in the northeast.  I had heat stroke twice on that bike.  700 mile days were easy (slab) getting to some great riding areas but in the end the heat killed me.

The V7, Jackal, and V85, no issues.

Guessing your Buell's were not Ulyssys? The 2 I owned were 3 season bikes unless you wore riding pants with aerospace heat tiles sewn onto them
