Title: Determining Firmware on '21 V7 850
Post by: MikeP996 on April 30, 2026, 02:07:58 AM
Is there a way to "display" the firmware on my '21 v7 850 Special's instrument cluster?  I was thinking that maybe the LCD readout for the various modes could show that with some combination of button pushes.  Is that the case or can it only be read out by a dealer with the appropriate instrument?  I want to determine if the most current MG map was dealer-installed by any of the three (!) previous owners.

You have to have a tool. Either by dealer or other, plugged in to diag port by airbox usually on newer smallblocks.
Like this or other upmap

Agreeing with what Steve said...

GuzziDiag I believe can read the engine ECU and it's build number, provided you have the cables and a Win PC or laptop or the like, phone likely won't work.

You MAY??? be able to see the build numbers by using the LH toggle and toggling to "service" or the like and entering the service code???? Never tried that. Search for service code here for the number.

Thanks guys, good info!!!  I don't plan on an upMap or other "performance" ECU mod so I don't want to pay bunch of money just to find out what map is in the bike.  It will just remain whatever it is!  ;)
