Title: V85 Emissions Compliance Sticker Location
Post by: wallycycle on May 29, 2026, 07:22:33 PM
Hello,

Would a V85 owner kindly let me know where on the V85 the Emissions Compliance Sticker is located. The one that says the bike complies with EPA and California Emissions for 20-- motorcycles........ ....

Thank you.

I just look all over my 2020 and could not find anything.
They show the stickers on the parts breakdown, but not where they are.

The EPA noise sticker is on the glovebox under the seat, but that's not what you are looking for.

Perhaps it is stuck to the bottom of the seat? I swapped mine for a high comfort seat so I don't have the original to look at.

On my 2022 it's on the left side of the downtube. It has the VIN and says the vehicle complies with all that stuff.
There's also a prehistoric-looking bug in there that I hope is dead.

UPDATE: The one you're looking for is on the tool tray under the seat, above the battery. I couldn't see it before because of some stuff I have in there.

Cheers!
Craig

Stickers shouldn't mean anything to anyone needing to know whether a vehicle complies with a state's requirements. It will be on the emissions "approved list".  I've never looked for stickers on mine and would expect an inspector to know exactly where they are.

You are correct; in theory.

I've purchased many out of state motorcycles over the years and titled them in California. The inspector in every case looked for two compliance labels affixed to the motorcycle in question. Federal Safety Compliance label (which has the vehicle's VIN# printed on the label) and the Vehicle Emissions Compliance Label. No label, no pass. That is of course in addition to the VIN# embossed on the right side of the headstock and the motorcycle's engine #. This last one, depending the the bike and where the # is embossed, has required me in some cases to remove quite a bit of stuff to allow it to be visible. And in one case where the two mandatory stickers were removed by the previous owner, I paid to have a local sign shop make some new stickers.

In about 2003 I purchased a Ducati 900ss off eBay. I went and picked it up in Michigan and then trailered it back to AZ. When I went to get it registered in AZ at MVD, the inspector was very interested in finding the emissions sticker and as I remember it, I was told without that sticker it wasn't getting titled in AZ. Luckily, he found the sticker somewhere on the frame and all was well.

Last year I registered/titled 2 out of state motorcycles, both Rokons, and when I went to the 3rd party MVD place, they weren't even interested in seeing the vehicles, much less looking for any emissions stickers or V.I.N.s. All I needed was the out of state titles. I guess the rules have changed in the last 23 years. In AZ now you don't even need to get a title notarized, the registered owner just signs the title when the vehicle is sold.

I love the quickie-registration,3rd-party, place near my place north of Phoenix (my winter golf/ pre-season baseball place).  It's never busy and they are fast and polite.

A few years back I inherited a 2007 Breva 1100.  Guzzi foolishly attached those stickers to the underside of the plastic seat pan.  The owners manual has a nice graphic image showing exactly that placement.  After a few years of engine heat those stickers tend to go fly away.  The bike was imported from Oregon to California thus requiring full inspection and compliance.  "No sticker? No plate!"  I was on the verge of parting out the machine when I found a moto breaker in Washington State via EBAY that had two such seats.  One had excellent stickers and the other had them but barely legible.  I bought the replacement seat.  All registered properly.  The new owner now has two seats.  I think he is storing the sticker version for future prosperity and riding with the bike's original.

Have you ever been to an official AZ MVD government office? If you've ever seen the movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles, the scene where the characters Del Griffith and Neal Page, are traveling by bus trying to get home to Chicago. AZ government MVD offices are just like that bus. All kinds low lifes sitting around with their screaming kids running around inside the place.

I haven't been to an official AZ MVD office for 25 years. I would much rather just pay the extra charge the 3rd party MVD sites wants and save myself the 2+ hours of frustration at the government MVD office.
