Title: Starter switch
Post by: Hope 4 V7 on June 11, 2026, 07:42:42 PM
The button to start the engine doesn’t appear to be the one to use (on my bike, anyway). The mode button (on the right side underneath the stop/start switch) only changes mode, as far as I can tell. What am I missing? Pressing on the bottom of the red switch starts the engine. Are my electronics messed up, or am I ignorant?

Thanks,

Jim

No one on this forum is clairvoyant. What year, make, and model are you asking about? V7 models go back over 50 years.

I agree, but the "mode" switch does narrow it down to a Hemi Head model since 2017.

Though I could still use more clarity on both the particular year and, just as importantly, the actual question.

Mode is usually on left and start on right. Get an owners manual, it says what you are looking for.

I hope the print is a bigger font than the V85TT's is.

The big red on the right is the start on the bottom and kill switch on the top. The button below it turns on and sets the cruise control. It will also change the ride mode when the left side mode button is in the ride mode position. Clear as mud! I'm sure it made sense to the 12 year old who invented it.

The two mode buttons are my biggest gripe. Confusing to say the least and under certain circumstances can't change the mode like cruise activated tc.  Still haven't figured it out completely.  I would rather have the cruise button on the left side.  I thought they would have learned from the 1400's, the cruise was on the right side but was moved to the left on the '18's. I was hard to set the exact speed with it on the right side trying to hold the grip steady while trying engage cruise. The bikes were so responsive it was a challenge, same with the V7 but not as bad. The button on my Audace was small and recessed to boot.
