Could it actually be a reverse gear instead?

Maybe both?

Looks like more crap that won't work from their so called engineers. Same who designed the electrics that go click click. You are the Guinea Pig not me.

I am not a buyer but am curious what this will weigh plus say goodby to engine braking if it reacts like most hybrid cars do when you lift your foot.

Most re-generation actually increase the amount of retardation. I believe in a lot of these types of systems the amount of regenerative force is adjustable maybe not all.

Thats not my experience with three hybrid vehicles. Two Toyotas and one Subaru. Let your foot off the gas and it will coast a 1/2 mile on flat road. OTOH I think Honda lets you adjust that.

First I love my Toyota hybrids. I'm on # three now and if Honda does come with a Ridgeline truck in hybrid I will be first in line. Around town mileage is fantastic and so is the power. May gas cars have better mileage on the highway. I just like the way they run and the power delivery. !00% of taxi cabs should be hybreds.
It does make some sense in Europe but the V7-850 would be at least 550 pounds and handeling would be questionable.

Curious indeed. However, as a Hybrid I wonder if the battery depletes after 50,60,100... miles and you're left with lower power ICE or whether the ICE recharges the battery while operating? They're already getting pretty complicated with all the electronics, ALB, Traction control..... adding Hybrid tech. may be too much for me. I already get 60+MPG. Additionally, the added weight may be a deal-breaker for many.

I am guessing it will work similar to a non plug in hybrid. The electric motor just adds some horsepower during acceleration or grades. The gas motor runs most all the time.
To run on only electric would take a huge battery. Look at EV bikes like the Zero.

I believe Toyota keeps the battery between 20-80% for max life. I would assume others do similar so by the 10 year mark if they are getting weak the bike is pretty worthless anyway.

I dislike vehicles that coast and prefer throttle control, especially on a motorcycle.

Why?
Other than being a novelty I suppose it could be to deal with some draconian EU rules. As one commenter noted on the website EVs are granted access to congested areas of cities whereas ICE only vehicles are prohibited.
-
I'm anxious to see exactly what they come up with.
Better yet, the Eldorado name is being patented along with some of the other 1400 series names. That, to me, is awesome.
I'm quite anxious to see what the next generation Eldorado will be. IMHO, Moto Guzzi hit the aesthetics of the Eldorado 1400 out of the park on a grand slam homerun.

Hardly draconian to incentivize EV usage in congested areas to reduce congestion and pollution.

I believe the article does mention something about this being for a cruiser, without being specific. It does look like a buncha gears with a big electric motor or something. And maybe it's a sop to whatever regulatory regime they have to operate under. So they can show, yeah, we are developing a hybrid motorcycle thingy. Eventually. At some point. After the factory is done. And August vacations. In a few years. After Luigi comes back from lunch.

I stand corrected, I was thinking pure EV vehicles.

Yeah, I read that article and one other from Europe, the hybrid design appears to work more like twist and go electric around town, with the electric motor providing assist on the higher gears. The base engine design appears to be the Stelvio/V100 powerplant, the electric motor is permanently matched to what has been speculated at 2 or 3rd gear....no other influence. I suspect that the design is only a added torque to increase the engine feel/torque to match the 1400 feel. Other notes were the fact that MG also renewed name ownership on MGX21, California, Eldorado and Audace, I can see that this is going to be an intersting mix. Some cars are using this kind of hybrid design on certain cars to give them better acceleration, whether or not MG and Piaggio can make it reliably happen shall remain to be seen.
I personally, will be making myself available to take a test ride when they come out. I could always use a bigger grin on take off!
