Hopefully an easy question for someone..
What chances are there of fitting these to say a V7 Classic? Is it the downpipes/headers and/or the silencers that determine the upswept look? I realise that brackets may need fabricated in order to fit on the pillion footrest hangers - perhaps using the Classic ones will be enough. Note that I'll want the pillion 'pegs to be retained.

The upsweep is in the header pipe.

If I recall correctly, there is a difference in the header outlet size between the heronhead and hemi head. So any v7ii racer up till 2016 should bolt right on.
As for where the upswept part of the exhaust occurs, I believe it is on the actual header pipe and the can attaches to it. You should be able to bolt one up without any modifications because the exhaust can bolts directly to the stanchion for the rear passenger foot pegs right underneath the peg.

From what I remember the V7 III engine tilts forward by about 4 degrees compared to the V7 I and II causing, the downpipes and crossover locations to not align properly with the frame tabs.
I also think the V7 II exhaust ports and header pipe are 35mm, while the V7 III is 40mm.
I mainly remember this because someone bot bought a V7 II stornello exhaust and tried to mount it to a v7III and it didn't work.

The V7 Classic's muffler (& header) runs parallel to the ground - the muffler itself covers the axle nut. If you want to fit V7 Racer mufflers you will need to replace the Classic's rear footpeg hangers with a shorter version (say, with those from a Nevada) as the V7 Racer mufflers are more upswept - the mufflers then come out above the axle nut. The bend happens at the header end of the muffler itself. Back in the day (before 2015) when Agostini had a complete range of exhaust systems for the V7's, the headers for the Classic & Racer were the same, but the mufflers were different.
My 2014 Special has been modified with the short footpeg hangers to fit the upswept Arrow mufflers that were an original option on the early Racers. I've kept the lower mufflers (& original hangers) on the Classic so the soft saddlebags still clear the exhaust.
I suspect the rules changed with the V7 II's changed geometry - I believe Agostini's aftermarket header systems were changed to fit the new geometry. Nowadays Agostini doesn't seem to have a complete range, but the site may still have some details & photos listed.

Silencers (along with some mirrors) were purchased yesterday, so I guess I'll need to get my feeble grey matter to come up with something.

With silencers off both 'bikes, the header outlet diameters are the same; I measured 38mm. This tallies with the advert saying suitable for all three models of 744cc V7.
I note the significant clearance between rear footpeg and silencer.. hmm, time will tell.
Additionally, my Classic header pipe tips up at the rear (as well as outwards by a lesser degree), which seems reasonable, given the bend in the silencer.

The Racer silencers arrived today. My powers of observation have escaped me!
The heatshield is similar/the same as on a 750 Breva i.e. longer and different mounting points compared to the V7. If I'd managed to dig out my spare Breva pipes from the back of the garage, then I'd have seen that!
The Racer silencers do indeed cant up greater than the V7 Classic, though the longer heatshield is what causes a problem with the pillion hanger. I've swapped over the silencer hangers and will need to make up short (~2") brackets, to allow the silencers to drop down lower and slightly further forward. Should be doable and quicker/easier than making up new silencer hangers.
To get virtually new silencers for about 100bucks, means I ain't complaining.

Those heat shields do seem to make fitting somewhat awkward. None of the aftermarket mufflers that I bought have that feature. Just a bracket with a hole welded to the body of the silencer.
The original Racer hangers are a pretty affair in billet with a couple of different sized holes & a couple of bends out & down. Very expensive, even at the time. Some people managed to duplicate the bends in plate metal (I inherited a set) or just use the Nevada ones - happened to be the right size. Alternatively, I have seen a pair of rose joints with threaded rod used instead. This works, with the advantage of not having to manage angles. Might have to delete the pillion footpegs themselves for a while.
