If you do name a Guzzi, does it have to be a girls name?
I want to name mine Guido, but I am told it must be a girls name. ??

Dont you think Guido may be a little too "on the nose" for an Italian bike? Girls names work because then you can talk of wrapping your legs around those big Italian jugs! ~;
-
there was a thread about this subject lately as I recall,
I refer to my bikes as "baby", they respond pretty well.
;)

White bike!

Hi,
the name of my Griso 1200 is "Griesje"...
It's from the fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel",
"Hans en Grietje" in Dutch.
With me it's "Ad en Griesje". ;D

Since this forum has several members of the "fairer sex" not to mention overly sensitive individuals, I cannot disclose the names I've called my beloved HD&M. ::)
-
... Girls names work because then you can talk of wrapping your legs around those big Italian jugs! ~;
Hard to visualize -- thankfully.
Harder yet to imagine how that could have worked well for you, with any Guzzi or girl I've met . . . :-\ :wife:

Springsteen was probably more poetic:
Just wrap your legs round these velvet rims
And strap your hands across my engines
Not sure it makes any sense, but if you say it with enough gusto...
-
I name mine for cartoon characters. Don't matter if they are male, female or androgenous.
Yes, this thread has surfaced b4
-
My Norge has a name, but it is gender-neutral: "the Fridge". It is NOT a reference to a certain former Chicago Bear.

Black bike and white bike.
The wife is coming up with a name for hers but she has to ride it a bit more to see what name is appropriate I do know it is a male name

I think "Guido" means "guide", so I thought it was a nice double entendre.

V7C named Giada ;D

My red V7 Classic is named Ruby, after a certain stripper who works in San Francisco. No one knows why.

Call it whatever you want. Different names, different days? No problem. It's a Guzzi: lots of different faces and personalities.
When I first got my Jackal -- my last previous bike had been a dirt bike -- it felt really huge for me, especially before I got the ergonomics sorted out. It was big, it was heavy, it had lots of torquey power, and it growled when provoked. "Oso" seemed appropriate at the time, and still fits well.
I ain't sayin' that's female, I ain't sayin' that's male -- but I've scorched my knees often enough to know not to wrap my legs around the jugs, y'know?

When they're running well, I call them names associated with beautiful women. When they're NOT running well, I call them "shithead".

Well mine says LeMans on the side cover so that is what I call it.

Rosie is the *only* motorcycle that's ever told me her name. Every airplane has.. <shrug>

As they are non-sentient, my motorcycles don't have names per se. I just call them "the Guzzi" and "the Bonnie".
-
Not necessarily, but if they name themselves... Mine chose "Brandy."
-
Not a female name, but I used to call my '83 850 LM-III - "The Racing Rhino!"

, but I am told it must be a girls name. ??
says who? it's your bike..
-
Well I've never named any of my bikes before, but this one does seem to have a personality. Besides, the GF rides her own and wants mine to have a name to, so I feel like I better name it something I like before she names it something like Lyle or Dwight.
-
My buddy named my Cal Vintage "Gina" as in Gina Lollobrigida.

Basso Profundo.

Mine don't have "names", yet. I've been trying to come up with a couple, but for now it's just "the EV" and "the Sport".
-
That's why new guys shouldn't start topics!
Yeah, it's pretty much hopeless. I don't have a lot of posts here, but I'm already aware of how any and all motorcycle topics have been slaughtered to death in this forum. But it's amazing how everyone will jump right in and do it all over. It's all about the socializing. This site is more like facebook than people might think. ;D
-
Mine is The Monzada because that is what it is made from. 50/50 Monza rolling chassis with Nevada powerplant.
It was initially known as Project Nevad-again as in I was never again going to do such a project.
A friend who has a Buell S3T and also likes Jethro Tull called his bike Stormbringer which suits it, with tune from the optional pipe...but all the Guzzi owners I have every known always refer to their bikes by model name or slight variations of it.
To each their own.
-
No, it's a bike, for crying out loud. My dog has a name, I think, it's called er.... Damn, I forgot ???
-
I just call my V11 Sport my Italian Girlfriend
My lady riding buddy re-named it my Italian Slut ;D
-
My 98 hd&m is Sophia. I have an old shovel head whose name is Critter, nuff said, But my panhead, who I had for many years, I called Grace because she would run into things for the first few years.

My G5 used to be called "The Green Goose", but since my last recollection of riding it involved me sliding down the road behind it, I now call it "Sparky"! :'(
-
I agree with whoever said bikes name themselves. My 96 Sport is Gina. I used to have an 84 California II who's name was Gus. Currently I have an 04 Triumph Tiger, an 09 Buell Ulysses, and an 01 California EV and none of them have disclosed the name they wish to be known as. Same goes for my two cats. They are known to me and my wife as big kitty and little kitty.
The wife won't call Gina by her name. She refers to her as my mistress and seems genuinely jealous at the mention of her. :-\

Every body
My GUzzi has a first name it's Motoooo my Guzzi has a second name it Guzzi
Oh, I love to ride my bike every day, and if you ask me why, I'll say,

(http://s12.postimage.org/6qc0unmll/wpemyrjvtmqdjrte.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/6qc0unmll/)
My old 79 SP was called "Gina", a classic Italian lady.
My Current CAFE'd LMV is called Sophia.. same reason ;-T ;D
-
No I don't name my bikes. Maybe I should. When I was much much younger I did use to own a crappy old green Chevy, which I fondly called Snot.
I do however name my GPS units, as they all have female voices. So far I've had Karen, Cecilia and now I'm riding with Charlotte. They've all been nice ladies, they never get angry with me
::)
-
my wife has started calling mine "la Puttana"...
-
Every body
My GUzzi has a first name it's Motoooo my Guzzi has a second name it Guzzi
Oh, I love to ride my bike every day, and if you ask me why, I'll say,
'Cause Moto Guzzi makes you want to H-A-U-L-A-S-S!!!
-
Only 2 of the 13 or so bikes I've owned have had names. And only one of my Guzzis.
Shortly after obtaining my T3, I was having breakfast with a bunch of riding buddies. As we sat looking out the window, one of my friends said her name was Sophia. And so Sophia it has been. Even has an Illinois license plate to prove it :)
Of course there are so many Moto Guzzis named Sophia it isn't funny. Still, it seems to fit . . .

Black Sunshine.
I normally don't name my bikes, but when I picked up my black V11 Sport, this song came on the radio on my way back. Fits the bike perfectly. Performed by White Zombie.

:bike I have a 09 stelvio named "Red Stella the mile muncher" My wife calls her the italian mistress.
I had a red v50 II that seemed to be called little red.
-
No.
(and propably never will. It's an old sewage pump, no need to name it. Same goes with my cars)
-
I call the 1100 Sporti 'The Sure Hand of God'after the Erskine Caldwell novel of rhe same name. They are both very racy!
-
Rossinante.
Spelled that way. Go figure. ;)
-
It's small, green and temperamental, so it's Verdina.
-
The bike is "The Guzzi" or occasionally "The Lemans" and the car is "The Subaru" or occasionally "The Subie"
My sister bought a cat a few years ago. The family tried to get together and name it. What is the cat's name?
"The Cat" ;) ;D
-
White bike!
Funny, my V7 is called "white bike" too, actually, it is now "White Guzzi", as I've got a white honda as well.
They Breva is called "grey bike", and sometimes "Kevin's Bike" by my wife, even thought Kev M doesn't actually own it anymore :D
-
My Norge has a name, but it is gender-neutral: "the Fridge". It is NOT a reference to a certain former Chicago Bear.
Jon
That is funny. The first time I saw reference to a Guzzi Norge, I thought "fridge", because that is what we had growing up. "Norge" was also a blimp:

"I don't always name my motorcycles, but when I do, I name them Dos Guzzi. Stay upright my friend."

I have not had my 2001 EV long enough to name her yet, but during the Clinton administration, I owned a V-Max (http://www.best-motorcycle.com/yamaha/1998-v-max/vmax-rfl.jpg) which I had a tendency to drop. In fact, she went down on me so many times I named her Monica.

We call it "Gu Gu Zi" in TAIWAN.
The mean is a chicken in chinese.

The blimp usually sits on top of a Norge… ;) ;D

My bikes usually have names like ' that oil leaking piece of junk' or 'that steaming pile' or 'that stinking piece of junk'. Really positive descriptions, dont you think? Most of my bikes have been really good, but none have had names until I got my vespa p-200. That was ciao bella, or la patina depending on my mood. My silver Jackal? What else but Goozfraba.

V7C named Giada ;D

Evidently, it was not funny. It killed this thread for four months.

I have two Guzzis, a 1978 and a 2007. They are affectionately called "The Old One" and "The New One". :)
-
my Bandit is "The Red Bike",
the V11 is "The Green One",
and my Cali is the "Cali".
:bike
-
have a cigar on that one!
Evidently, it was not funny. It killed this thread for four months.

I never named my bikes until I got my Guzzi. One day, when I had a lot to do, I looked at it sitting there and said to myself, "I'll think about that tomorrow," and went for a ride. So I named it Scarlett O'Guzzi. After an acquaintance said that all bikes were menaces, I changed it a little. Now, it is Scarlett, the Red Menace.
I've had several suggestions for the Triumph, but haven't found one I like.
-
I call my 77 LeMans "LeMans". Though I did have a converted Convert with a Windjamer on it that I called Big Ugly.
-
Remember Quicksilver Messenger Service's "Mona?" All time classic... A
And what should you call a Quota with a Ural tub? Luigi...?
-
Just thought of a new name for my V7c ..... Mona!
Um, you might want to research that. In Italian, it's a slang term that's not particularly complimentary...
~;
My bikes only have names when they anger me. These tend to be short, gutteral, temporary monikers which - if I understand correctly, originate in the distant and extinct saxon/celtic lexicons. ;-T
-
My bikes dont have names... in general.
Cali is cali or the big guzzi, v35 is the little guzzi (ok, sometimes reffered to as "suffer" by my swmbo after she took it for a longer ride... it is that comfy) and yamaha is yamaha.
-

To paraphrase the most arrogant man in the world:
"I'm not Italian, but when I ride Italian, I prefer a Moto Guzzi."
To honor my Anglo-Saxon ancestry,
and the oily mess on the left side of my crankcase,
I'm thinking "Slippery Sam" after the leaky Triumph Trident
five time Production TT winner of the Isle of Mann, 1971-1975.
-
My Cali is called Violante, for actress Violante Placido.
Neal in NJ

74 850T is Red Dog. 76 850T3 is Blue Boy. 2011 Black Eagle is Crow Dog. I like my girls to be TomBoys.

Big Gal.

I call my 2000 Jackal "Jezebel" after the trouble she was for me last year :)
-
"Lord Nelson, Defender of the Faith and Master of All He Surveys".
No, just kidding. Actually, that's my name for my . . . well, you know.
No, just kidding again. Seriously, I have trouble putting a name to any inanimate object, no matter how much fun it is. So I've never named any of my cars, or motorcycles, or guns, or anything else.
-
All of our Guzzi's have names. My Lemans 3 is called Leona, My Griso is called Gus our V65 Monza is called Flo and the California is Cali well seeing as we named our daughter after the bike it's hard to call it anything else.
-
I got it! My Quota/Ural sidecar outfit is: GUIDO. [Italian derivation for "wide."]
-
I call my 07 Sport "Kevin", so it's "Kevin the 07 Sport".
Unfortunately, only the Oztralians on the board will get it.
-
Oh, what a Rudd-y lil funny you make Kenebar...
-
My 1986 V65TT is "GOAT-Z"
-
Yes, its called a Norge.
It is gender neutral. I would expect that if I referred to it as a she, that I would find myself ostracized and referred for counseling.
-
My LeMans is the "MoGu" because thats how the state abbreviated it on the registration. My '71 Norton is "Nort" for the same reason.

My Eldorado was Ironwing, my Bassa is Josie.
I also own a moving dolly named Salvador, a 38 snubnose named Roscoe, and a frying pan named Chopin.
The machete named Arturo Miles was not my idea, the name was vibra-etched into when I found it on the street.
The Kimber UltraCarry II is named Lil' Kim. I may as well call my two pound sledge Thor.
-
The LeMans III, I call "Tre"
CX100 "The Guzzi"
The Tiger is named "Douglas"
-
Not yet.
Don't think I've ever given any of my many previous Bikes names, but I feel that I should with my Stelvio, for some odd reason
I've only had it just over a month now, and so far the most common thing I've called it is 'BA**ARD' when the height/weight has caught me off-guard when moving it around on foot . . .
My NC30 came close to getting named, the Reg starts with XTC, but Ecstasy is more the feeling it gives me when riding it, rather than a name as such!
I suppose one of my old RD400s had a name, the reg started with DMW, I dubbed it the Dirty-Messy-Wheeliemachine.
-
'The Guzzi'.
-
Since I have put a red Jackal tank on my white Cali Stone I call it "Think Guzzi in '68!
'Cause it's such a time warp

Given where I've had my hands and the things I've done to my cars/bikes/airplane/etc.
I'm a lot more comfortable not anthropomorphizing. No names.

78 T3 named Nuba. Think Clyde Beatty.
-
I used to have a Le Mans 1000which had the Riservato Competizioni Lafranconi pipes, I called her "Merlin" after the engine which powered the Spitfire fighter plane of WW2 (Made a wonderful noise when you wound her up)
-
My LMIII is white. I call it "Mary Ann" because I assume there's another LMIII owner out there with a red one named "Ginger", and we all know who was hotter.
Of course, Ginger might have been "faster". Might have to rethink that one.
Sometimes when it's not running I call it "I'm selling you"
-
More like nicknames, don't really ever address them by name:
White '14 Stone "Cracker"
Black blue '80 Yamaha XS850 Special "Disco bike". The factory black paint with blue metal flakes and sort of cruiser style screams of the disco era.
-
Mine is named Claudia, after the only "love at first sight" I ever experienced. When I first rode my Breva it was much the same thing. There is no other story with Claudia, the girl, however. She was already involved and I was only in Germany for a few days. But my Breva seems to like the name, anyway.
-
I had a pretty blue Suzuki S50 I called Josephine after my Wife's departed sister, that earned me some brownie points.

V7R is "Little Goose"
STRX is "Mary Anne"...sometimes the "Hot Rod"....

The Eldorado is Edo, the leMans is LeMans, the Cal II is Why did I buy this? and the Robbin is Robbin. My Buell is Bueller.

I think "Guido" means "guide", so I thought it was a nice double entendre.
Guido in Italian means 'I drive' or 'I ride'.
-
Had a Convert years ago that I named Puddles. :embarassed:
-
My black bassa was affectionately known as Black Bart. I don't have a name for my v65sp, not sure why. My much loved Breva 1100, I call The Red Arrow. Because for me, that's now it feels in flight.

HERKIMER !!

Thank you Mgrego for posting the picture, your bike is fantastic! Now I really wonder should I buy Audace or should I look for bikes like yours.
