With the removal of the photo uploader from the forum a third party hosting website will need to be used to host your pictures and then you just need to link them to your post to get them to appear.
Honestly, this was the only forum I'm a part of that was still offering a photo uploader as part of the forum so I've been using Photobucket for a number of years when posting pictures.
It is clear that not everyone has a handle on how to post pictures using a site such as Photobucket so I decided to put together a short tutorial. It would be nice if those of you who use something other than Photobucket, such as Smugmug, Flickr, etc., would post up some instructions for those if desired as I have no experience with them.
This is my way of working with Photobucket, they seem to change the site every so often and I have to learn a new way and there may be quicker ways to do things but this is the way I know and it works.
Log into your photobucket account and then click on your library tab.
You main album will come up with all of your sub-albums shown to the right. I've made a mess of my albums and would like to reorganize but I believe that doing so will break the links to all the pictures I have out there and I hate when I go through a thread and the pictures all show they've been removed. Anyway, we're going to go to the Guzzi album so I'll just click on that.
Your album will open and you'll see all your pictures as thumbnails. If you mouse over the pictures you'll see a sprocket appear in the upper right corner of the picture. Click on that sprocket.
When you click on the sprocket you'll have a small information window pop up. Click on the Get Media Links option.
Your window will go black and you'll get a new information box that comes up in the middle of the screen. To post a picture to the forum just click on the link at the bottom of the box showing the IMG code.
When you click the link you'll see in the box that it shows copied. This means that this link is now on your clipboard and all you need to do is paste into the your message on the forum, I use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl V. When you copy this you'll see the link come up in your post with IMG on either side of it, if you click the Preview button instead of the Post button you'll be able to see what your actual post will look like and the picture should come up. In my case I spent a bit of time cropping these pictures in Photobucket but when I preview them I see the uncropped version; sometimes I hate photobucket.
If you click on the photo in your album the picture will enlarge and on the lower right corner of the screen you'll see the same options as if you had clicked the get media links from the sprocket. Again you can just click on the IMG code link which will copy it to your clipboard so that you can paste it into your message. This is also an option if you are in another person's photobucket public page and I used this in a different thread on this forum to post some pictures in a thread for which we were only seeing the link to the OP's photobucket album.
If you've got any questions I'll try to answer them. I am in no way a Photobucket expert but I've been using it for a few years now and know how to post my pictures.

Photobucket rocks even the free account, I out grew the free one a couple of years ago and signed up for the yearly paid account which give you practically unlimited space with multiple albums to share or not to share.
-
Nice joh, Adam.. ;-T

Thanks for this.
You can post just about any photograph that you have or find on the web. Just paste the url in your post, begin the url with the tag "img" in brackets (no quote marks) and end it with "/img' in brackets (no quote marks). Make sure you don't put any spaces between the url and the "img" tags.
Since this forum does not appear to automatically re-size photographs, you should try not to post larger than 800 x 600. (Caveat: unless you are purposely trying to post something to be shared as wallpaper or a screen saver image; in that case, you probably want to post at 1024 x 768.) If the image you want to share is bigger than that, it can't easily be viewed on most devices. There is free software that can be used to re-size images. Once the image is re-sized, you can put it into something like photobucket, and post it here as described.
Now, does anybody know how to embed YouTube videos here, or is that feature not available? I've tried posting them several different ways, and can never get this to work. All I can manage is to post links.

Thanks a lot.

Ive tried as well it either can't be done here or you have to know the secret code to do it.
Pixresizer is an excellent free, easy and nag free program to re-size pictures. It can be found at varies sites to download but here is the Cnet link which is always reliable and virus free.

I've tryed unsuccessfully to use Photobucket in the past. I was just getting ready to post pictures of the installation of a Rostra Cruise Control on my Stelvio NTX. Now I can't do that unless I can get P'bucket figured out. Unfortunately, for some reason I am not able to print off your instructions and will have to hand copy them.

I have them as a PDF and can email the presentation to you if you would like. Just shoot me a PM with your email address.

I find postimage.org very easy to use for single pics uploads if you can live with the "click on image to---" and the ads. (This is also the one that WG used before ?)
Just browse your computer and upload the image that you want. Re-size option is also there. This picture is uploaded with 1280x1024,- for "19 inch monitors" as it says.
Then just copy the image to your clipboard and paste it into the WG forum`s message box. I used "Thumbnail for Forums 1" for this image.
(I use an iMac, and I don`t know if it will be different with a PC though)

I've followed this procedure and can get the information from Photobucket pasted in the text of the message, but when I click on "Post" all I get is a small box with a "Red X" in it. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.
Edit:
[img(http://i1285.photobucket.com/albums/a595/ChuckinIndiana/2012%20Stelvio%20NTX/PICT0229_zpsfc23f187.jpg)][/img]
I had the pictures listed as "Private". Making them "Public" helped. Let me try again.

When you establish a PhotoBucket account, your stored pictures are available to the public by default. However, you can modify settings and make the pictures 'private' so that only you can see them. Did you perhaps alter your privacy settings within the photobucket account? Can you grab the same link from PhotoBucket and paste it into an email? send it to me, pehayes@comcast.net

OK I give up! As a publisher by trade working in Photoshope or on the computer in general is what I do. I know I saw a post here but did not pay attention to it about "How To Post Your Pics" I mean it was so easy you just clicked on the wording that said the same? Now since that time the wording is gone, I went to HELP (developing a head-ache) as I tried to make sense of all of it? If you have the time PLS tell me what has changed and how do I post pics.......I am holding my head N shame to have to ask this!
PS: just out of curiosity WHY was the process changed....inquirin g mind would like to know?
Regards & THX N Advance

Yes ,I could use the old system but Luap said that some people were getting spam because of it. I never did. I wish he would get a dedicated service again.I re upped my donations so money would not be the reason.

You have to host it some where else - like on a photo website.
Then you have to put the LINK (it's called the ADDRESS/URL) to that photo in the proper tags [img ]http:// and [/img ] <--- no spaces in the tags.
You can FIND the link by right clicking and looking under Properties when looking at any pic on the internet (including the one you uploaded to a photo website).
When posting on WG, there's a shortcut that puts those image tags on the page. It is below the Subject and Message Icon lines, in the bottom of the 2 rows of icons, second from the left - looks like a PICTURE IN A FRAME.
That help?
To see what it all looks like - try right clicking this photo and take a look at the link/URL
(http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m113/mem_Mike/My%20Stone/IMGP2872_zps0543a71c.jpg)
Next, try hitting QUOTE to this post - you'll see the link and tags.
-
The image uploader was dropped because it posted some questionable spam, and maybe a Trojan or something like that. You'll have to get an account like Photobucket, upload your picture there, get the [IMG] file, and paste it into your post. Easy peasey.
Looks like Kev beat me to it.. ;D
-
Sign up for Photobucket (or one of the others).
Upload your photos to Photobucket.
When you view you Photobucket photo, there is a box to 'share' the photo. Click on that and it will copy the link to the photo.
Come here and paste that link into a message. make sure you have the "[img]" and "[/img]" around the link.

Hey folks. Sorry, I'm sure the answer's here elsewhere- but what's the most straightforward way of inserting a pic in a post. Do you just copy & paste the url from a photo site? How about phone pics? Thanks!

I am finally trying to post photos through Photobucket. My problem I think is that everything is fine using previously posted instructions until it says to to attach chosen link to your clipboard and then you can drag to the post. Okay....but what the hell is a clipboard and where do I find it?
GliderJohn
-
I'm hoping for someone to 'splain that too, new computer after a hard drive failure and I' m still posting with an IPad but I'm getting it figured out slowly.
-
The clipboard operates in the background on your computer. When you right-click on a photo and select "copy URL," the address of the photo is saved to your clipboard. When you paste that address between the "img" tags, you're creating a link to the photo and the image shows up in your post.
-
Okay. Thanks for the responses but I must be too thick today. When I select it says "copied" but to where? My "paste" is not highlighted. I am on a MAC, is the "clipboard" something else on a MAC? Otherwise I have no idea where to find the "clipboard".

Hi Gliderjohn
I just uploaded this image through Photobucket on my iMac, copying the IMG code. You have to click on,- and highlight the message box before you past the image into it,
- hope that helps ?
This is a very nice belgium beer by the way,-8.5 %,- 750 cl,- one bottle enough !

you can't see the clip board.. It can only hold one thing at a time.. it's a place in the computer that temporarily holds the item until you put it somewhere else.
so you can highlight the url or anything else then copy it, it holds inthe clipboard until you paste somewhere.
to highlight an address drag across it by holding down the mouse as you drag, it turns blue.. or you can double click the mouse over what you want to copy to turn it blue.
then I use "command c " hold down command (apple key) and touch c key or right click and select copy.. it is then copied..
when in clipboard navigate to where you want to put it, say WG discussion.. activate cursor on the page and paste it there by right click and select paste or "command v" is the KB shortcut.
ps, you can copy the whole [IMG]http://address at photobucket so you don't have to go thru the step of typing that in. find the IMG code and click your mouse on it 3 times to turn the whole line blue, command c to copy.

Once you have your pic on photobucket, hover over the pic and you will see the sprocket (tools) appear in the top right corner. Click on that and go down to the "get links" Click on that and then click on the IMG codes link. You will briefly see the word "copied". Come back to here and right click in the post and "paste". That's it.

You are oh so close. All you have to do after the IMG is copied is click on the message and hold down the control key and then push V. Control V is an old shortcut for Paste, and always works whether you have a paste icon or not.. for instance, I just copied thie IMG file clicked on this message, typed this and will now hit control V Oops, it's Command V on this Mac

If you go to the search box in the upper right portion of the page you are on (just below Donate), you can type in "Uploading Pictures" and it will take you to a link:
You will have to toggle the arrow to search this board after you enter uploading pictures.
There you will find your answer.

I opened a free photobucket account. Paste in the link to your image on photobucket and it's all good. And Luap doesn't have to store them!

OK. I'm going to do a basic repeat of the OPs post in the hope that it will help anyone who is still confused. It may also help any of you who choose to use Imageshack for online photo storage.
Personally I use Imageshack (the free version) for storing on line the pics I want to post. It's all I use it for really. The only gripe I have with Imageshack is that some pics, esp. older ones, seem to be temporarily unavailable periodically.
I use Irfanview, another free downloadable program, as my usual viewer and manipulator of pics. It's a pretty simple and basic little program but does nearly everything that I want.
Before I upload to Imageshack, I use Irfanview to re-size the pics. I find it easier to do it at that point.
For nearly all pics I'm posting on the forum I re-size to 640x480 which is quite big enough, (all the following pics are that size) or for a bigger pic, 800x600. Any bigger than that won't fit on a lot of screens. Imageshack also provides you with the opportunity to re-size as part of the upload process. A recently added feature.
The following looks a bit long and complicated, but it is not in fact.
Uploading an image and posting as part of the process.
After opening Imageshack in your browser if you push the Media Upload button, you get this window;
After clicking Browse I've selected an image and used the Imageshack tool to re-size it.
(http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/9854/k2ii.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/39/k2ii.jpg/)
Once uploaded, a small version of the image is displayed in the upper left of the screen;
(http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3411/su9v.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/812/su9v.jpg/)
Over to the right of this is the button Continue to the image links
(http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/1351/h3ll.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/703/h3ll.jpg/)
When you push it you get this;
(http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/8021/w5a2.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/818/w5a2.jpg/)
You can see that down in the "Links to share your image" section I have clicked in the box labeled "Forum Code"
All I have to do then is click the Copy button on my browser, and, in the message composition box on the forum, click Paste.
In the composition box it will look like this;
(http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/4738/dsxb.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/6/dsxb.jpg/)
But I choose to Backspace over the bottom line that begins with "Uploaded with" as it is just Imageshack advertising. It then looks like this;
(http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/168/y4wx.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/59/y4wx.jpg/)
When you go to "Preview" or post your message, there is your picture!
Here it is by the way. It's the 2013 Mogan 3 wheeler. Yes, they are making them again and the base model will only cost you 25000 Pounds Stirling!!! :o
(http://imageshack.us/a/img600/7641/0e2y.jpg)
Posting a pic already stored on Imageshack.
A pretty similar process with out all the uploading. When you open your Imageshack page, your pics are displayed like this;
The pics have a series of icons alongside each thumbnail
(http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/4516/wh8n.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/33/wh8n.jpg/)
Clicking the top on, the blue 'i' takes you to the share' window;
(http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/3443/p2nh.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/819/p2nh.jpg/)
I 'un-tick' the box for 'Include Details' which leaves this;
(http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/8949/oqpx.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/248/oqpx.jpg/)
From there it is just a matter of Clicking in the 'Forums' box, and copying and pasting as before.
Here is the pic. It is the refurbished Endeavour.
Done! And what an exercise making this post turned out to be. I hope it is of some help to someone. If not, it was an interesting exercise for me. I obviously have too much time on my hands, probably as a result of being temporarily unemployed. (again... sigh)

What I have ended up doing is posting the picture in Facebook (Photo Bucket will work too) I put it in an album called Technical and set the privacy setting to Only Me so it doesn't get sent out to every one else. Now when you want to post a picture here:
1) find the icon that says Insert Image. you should see img and \img both surrounded by brackets with the cursor blinking in-between them.
2) go to the Facebook album and open the picture, put the cursor over the picture and Right Click the mouse.
3) Select "Copy Address"
4) paste the address at the blinking cursor located between img and \img
5) go to the bottom of the pane and select Preview to see if it worked.
This works for me on a Mac. Seems like a lot of trouble and well it is a lot of trouble but I guess it saves space on this server. Hope this helps.

Yes the best way is to have the photo hosted somewhere (like Photobucket (http://s4.photobucket.com/)) and then link it 'direct'.
Or, you can just link a photo you found somewhere on the web - on windows right click the photo and click "copy image location" - then paste that into the space left when you click on the "Insert image" button above the dialogue box of the post..
Note that on many web-forums there are a minimum number of posts before you're able to link pix.. not sure here but it may be about 5 or so posts before you're able to..
-
Funny, I tried the same with Shutterfly and can't seem to get it to work. Probably have to switch.
-
I'm REALLY glad you brought this up..
I'm sure I'm missing something here but presently I'm on five different forums and to add a pic is so intuitive and easy compared to this forum? U simply browse your desktop for said pic and enter it .......that's it. Don't have to use a third party hosting service and since I don't use social media. I see the post here all the time as to the difficulty of simply posting a pic and I'm sure there is a good reason (I'm just not aware of it)
Anyway just my two cents?

Many THX for the offer to post pics when needed. I just need to find the time and set down and work it out? I still don't understand though WHY it's so easy to post pics on other forums?
I will use The Connie Forum for example. After you do your thing ie: try to say something either intelligent or witty whatever the case may b then you click on attachments and then N Big Bold Print it says Attach: Just hit the browse button and choose your photo so easy. I can't remember when anyone has written in and saying how do U attach photos.
PLS don't anyone take this as just me criticizing the forum I'm just trying to understand Why one (forum) has to be more difficult than another one?

because that forum hosts the pic itself requiring a huge amount more (band width?) (server space?) ($) . We had that once here but it runs smoother if the pic gets hosted elsewhere on the web .

OK......I got it! Of course point well taken! It's $40/yr to be a member of Connie Owners and here I just donate what I feel is the right amount. I can certainly understand now and my question was answered.

Ciao Tutti,
I know this is stupid, I search on the topics before asking... I am familiar with many other forums but cannot seem to find the "attach image" button...
Am trying to attach images directly from my computer... Do I first have to ask the administrator to enable this feature??
Many Thanks
Carlo
-
The image button is on the 2nd row, 2nd from the left, under the italics button. You can't post a pic directly from your computer, you'll have to upload it to a host site like photobucket, I post pix from a facebook album.
-
There is no "attach" feature currently, only an "insert" an image that is hosted elsewhere as Skin points out.
-
If you open the picture in Photobucket click on the
Links to Share This Photo / IMG box and it copies it into memory
Come back here and just Crtrl V (Command V for a Mac) and it's done

Why so cheap on that 1100? That seems insane.

All,
Apologies...but I really want to post pictures here. I have an external hosting site. How does it work again?
Looked in FAQ: seems dated to 2008 and obsolete.
thanks

1. Set up an account on Photobucket.com*
2. Upload your photos to Photobucket
3. Each of your photos on Photobucket has an option for different ways to select a link to the photo... Select and copy the "URL" link.
4. Paste that URL link into your message here on Wildguzzi.
5. Click Preview to make sure it works.
*I suggest this service because I know it works, and it's easy.

I was struggling with this a few days ago. I use photobucket and found that, if I clicked on the option on the photo (looks like a gear wheel), clicked Get Links and then copied the IMG code, all I got on the post was a small icon but no image. If, on the other hand, I double clicked on the photo to open it up in a larger image, right clicked on the photo and then clicked Copy image URL and dropped that onto the post, I had a picture where I wanted it.

Foto,
Nice one. You really want to do dogs? Get ready...
This water color was painted by my youngest in the other email (art student, and damn good). Both of my brother's Old English Sheepdogs died last year. So she painted this for him. I had an OES years ago before poodles, and another one growing up in Colorado. So, we have four Sheepdogs in Dog Heaven right now, and one red Standard Poodle (Lucy)...aka why I am the Lucydad..

Now that is one soul-full brown puppy...
Here is Gaston, aka "Little Monster". He has the heart of a Lion...and keeps all laps occupied and is a complete, total, out of control "ball a holic". He can catch over 100 frisbees in a row...given a decent pitch...

the problem my pup has with frisbee is the thrower but she loves frisbee.. she carries it on the walk over to our park where I throw it as far as I can many times. I walk 2 miles, she does about 5..

It's been a sticky. Last time, it was a sticky for almost a year. People just don't pay attention.
-
How do you put pictures up?
-
You host them elsewhere and copy the link.
I use photobucket
Do a search on the topic there are some good examples
Here you go, someone more clever than me ???

I'll get someone around here to show me how to do it. Most sites at one time all had a picture host, for some reason they have all gone to this new method and I need to get onboard.
-
Some forums host, others do not. I'm fortunate to have a website for posting pictures. I named the page "fun photos" so we can share projects, activities, and other things people might want to see. I don't own a Guzzi yet but when I do....BAM....there will be pictures to share.

Use the SEARCH function. It has been covered numerous times in detail.
-
I've got too dependent on the picture hosted thing anyhow. Time to get a photobucket account. Just not sure how you transfer it over here is all. I'm having trouble with this windows 8, harder to navigate stuff, sux.
-
Does anybody know how to post pics from an ipad??
-
like any other device you have to host the pic somewhere else on the web and link it here.

If the iPood supports Tapatalk, it is built into the Tapatalk software.
If not then you need to manually do it like fotoguzzi pointed out.
Do a forum search. There was even a video on the steps.
