My V7 Cafe is now 10,000 miles old and has suddenly sprung leaks from both rocker cover gaskets, first on the left side on one ride, then the right the next. Anyone else had this happen? It's a easy fix and the new gaskets are cheap at 4 Pacific Pesos each (that's Kiwi dollars in banker-speak) but it sure is a pain to arrive at places with hot oil all over your boots. Talk about total emersion in a famous brand.

Do Not get the stock paper material ones, make sure that Part # 887002 is the one you get. They are metal and wont rip, are reusable and wont leak. This is the latest and best cover gasket.

Should have had a 15000 k service not so long ago and valves checked? Are they new gaskets?

Is there a difference in gaskets between the old and new motors?
Just curious what I should be looking for in terms of spares (then again, I've already got spares "on order" from MPH, so finger's crossed).

Kev, The new gasket fits all SB, it's been on the new bikes since last year. Similar to the metal front cover gasket for timing chest on the later BB. No need to replace them, clean them oil dry and the cover-head surfaces and they seal.
They are thin metal w/black coating on both sides. Your V7 Stone has them, you'll see.

I should "see" that soon as I'll be performing the break-in service when I get the other parts (including Sump Spacer) back from powdercoat.

I dont know about the small blocks but on my calvin I had to use a rubber gasket by realgaskets.com & the problem was solved.

One of the nicest changes in years. The new gaskets are another Piaggio innovation, yes, the same Piaggio everyone likes to bag-out. The old fibre gaskets were a pain in the arse. They almost always ripped as they became frangible as they 'cooked' and were also, as they remain on the later pushrod big blocks, leak prone.
The new type I first experienced on Aprilia RSV4's. They are thin metal of some kind with a coating on. You can, quite literally, bend them in half and flatten them out again and they'll still work!
Not only does this meet all the requirements for parsimony demanded by Moto Guzzi owners as they rarely need replacement but they are also, in my experience, 100% leak free! By all means keep a couple on the shelf but they'll probably be there a long while.

i dont think so. i think those are just the double thick regular material ones.

I think you're correct Bailey. I just did another Google search and can't find these "metal" type mentioned anywhere.

Todd at MPH sent me black gaskets, part #887002.
I guess they could be metal coated with something.
I'm sure they're the right ones as I trust Todd implicitly with such matters.

Thanks PokeyJoe, I too saw their listing. MG Cycle uses the same number and it's only a regular gasket, so I'm not certain of the listed part number. Without at least a description I'll need to call first. When the clerk answers, he won't have any idea what I'm speaking of.

They SORTA use the part number - If you look closer they say literally there item is a different part number "19023700" and somewhat deceptively add "Most recent number for this item is 887002" when the truth is the should really say "Gasket 887002 has superseded this item".

The last official dealer we had in Canberra didn't even bother with rocker cover gaskets! Rather than keeping these in stock they used to just rip off the original, old style gaskets and wog the covers up with silastic. OE of the reasons they are now an EX-dealer ??? How much does it cost to keep a handful of RC gaskets in stock fer crying out loud?
If you have any issues with getting the correct ones drop me a line and I'll slip a couple of the correct ones in an envelope.

I used the MG Cycle gasket that was linked about on a 2011 V7. They seemed to work better than the stock ones. The stock ones had a very narrow sealing area and the reason they leaked is that when tightened the gasket squirted out the side a bit and was only sealing by a VERY small amount. The MG Cycle gaskets were more rigid and seem to stay put and seal well. No leaks after a year.

Do they make a comparable gasket to the 887002 for an 850T? It would be the OEM part 12023700.

There is a thicker gasket than the standard one.
We have them in stock as do many of the other guzzi parts shops.
