Geese,
A kind member here sold me the black V7 rear rack for a very low price. MPH installed it and I just rode the bike home.
This is the best $125 I have spent in a long time! Now I have the ability for weekend rides, and to the coast for picnics, etc.
I think the black goes with the bike, and the lines are perfect keeping the V7R elegance intact.
I would post a picture, but don't know how. Anyone desiring a picture: just pm me and I will email you one.
Finishing lunch now, it is a gorgeous day here on the TEXAS Gulf Coast--and the tank is filled, and I think I am going to head to Freeport and go see Mother Ocean. 8)

Would be interesting to see the rack on a Racer. You can find instructions inside the "images" sticky just above.

lucydad,
Email me the photos and I'll post them up for you.

Sent a side view. I have a better rear view but my TX license plate is shown. If there is more interest I can take another picture and cover my plate.
Yep, it worked out fantastic!
-
Rocker, did I already ask this - but where did that black rack come from? Did someone have an OEM rack coated?

Kev,
Yes. It was a factory rear rack painted black. Looks like it mounted without the need to flip the shocks!

Greg,
Now all you need is a duffle bag for your camping gear! (Go Ortleib).

We have a thread for that: http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=59106.0

Yep, need to measure the length and order a duffle. Next up is a small two man tent. I have everything else, I may find a very lightweight sleeping bag too.
This rack maybe saved me ten grand: forget another light touring bike.
MPH did the install, and figured out how to not flip the shocks.
Saw a guy who had just bought or put a deposit down on a new black Stone at MPH. Wow was he excited! When he saw my bike, he said---geez now I know why the V7Rs are so hard to find. I had to chuckle and we talked about the bikes, break in and such while Todd smiled.

The rack looks awesome in black and the bike even better! Sweet ride!
Enjoy!

Lucydad, Very Nice!
My "long range" plan was to sell both of my bikes, buy a Norge 8V for touring and a smaller HD such as a basic SoftTail.
But, seeing the V7s such as yours has me rethinking that plan!
Perhaps a the new small block Guzzi and go with a new HD touring bike. Or keep the current HD and just go for the Guzzi!
(Kev M will understand)
Sigh...it will have to wait until the debt load lightens up quite a bit. :-\
-
I did the same thing; had the rack powdercoated black and put it on my V7 Classic.
Here's a photo.

This is such a fat softball pitch for "rack" jokes that, you know what, I'm not even gonna bother :D
-
Rocker,
Well done on the photoshop, er whatever on covering plates. Just back from the coast...more riding tomorrow. Time to get serious about the camping tent and light bag...the V7R has hidden potential!
I think MPH just added some washers and longer bolts to avoid the shock flip. It is pretty simple.
-
Nice work! Looks great Greg!
My wife has the factory Guzzi bag to go on that rack - it's great.
As far as the rack on the white classic, do you have a shot from the other side?!?! 180 degrees round would be good...

A photo from the other side, the front, would have the rack hidden by the speedo cluster. Wouldn't it?

The headlights, show us the headlights! ;-T

Here's a better view of the rack,

Hi mates,
This post might be quite rusted already but being a new V7Classic owner I am searching through all the posts which can help me.
So I would really appreciate if you can help me a little bit regarding this luggage rack topic.
In few words, I bought the bike from an Italin dealer who shipped the bike to Romania togehter with the genuine Guzzi rack but "forgetting" the mount kit for it. So now I see myself needed to search for some replacement screws or whatever is needed.
My question to all of you who istalled one is if you know how this was done. Are some longer screws needed to replace the stock ones (which are keeping the rear shocks in place)? Are they also painted or chromed just like the rack is? Honestly I don't want to put classic ones which can rust and look bad in few months...
Unfortunately I didn't found any picture on the internet with this mounting kit or an information regarding the standard screw dimensions.
Thank you very much for your support.
All the best and thousands revs!
Daniel

Tazturttle:! Cripes those wheels look fabulous! IMO wheels are what makes any motorcycle look good or bad. I am thoroughly sick of all the black wheels on what would otherwise be a good looking mc. Ducking & running like blazes. R3~
-
Wheels! Living now with both chromed & painted. The chroming's not too flash - even after a warranty replacement for rust - you've got to try to keep on top of the rust coming through. Not sign of rust on the painted rims, & not so critical in cleaning. For a bit of jazz, I like what the PO did to the rims - and a bonus - a lot easier to find your campsite at night.

Lucydad,
Here's a rear end shot of the Ortlieb medium duffle - on top of the big stove & under the wok. You shouldn't need anything bigger than that. I prefer the small Ortlieb, but the medium has extra room for more clothes & a couple of bottles of wine, so it usually gets used for the longer trips.

And here's a photo from a trip last year - fully loaded and still under 35kg (that's 77lbs in the old measure).

LD,
You've been planning for over three years. When will you strap a duffel bag on that rack and hit the road ???

This thread is about REAR racks...the internet is full of front racks!

Oh oh oh oh!
Could I get a pick of the bike without luggage but with the racks and dart screen? That's EXACTLY what I want my touring set up to be!
Do you ever wish you could see through the screen? Tucked in going for the "business" can you still see over the dash?

And yes, I like the Chromium - version as it is a nice counterpart to all the matte black.

Here's a rundown of my experience, which I hope is singular.
First, the box arrived and the rack had punctured through the side of the box scratching some of the powder coat off of it. There was also no mounting hardware.
I am lucky that I ordered through AF1. They gave me a $50 refund to get a small can of enamel paint and hardware after I told them I wanted to keep the rack. I thought that was fair ... it was a 20% discount for my hassel. Picked up the hardware and paint and will address that issue shortly.
The rack itself is well made (the fabrication and material was good enough, maybe not $300 good but certainly I am happy and confident in its construction), but QC could use some help. One of the mounts was not welded perfectly perpendicular and the angle of attack for one of the forward mounting bolts was off by a few degrees. Some careful washer/spacer work fixed that (as the rack is capable of flexing a bit).
The rack has a bit of welding slag rattling around in it ... good thing the red goose is noisy or I'd have more to complain about :azn:
Overall a net positive addition to the bike. It's only 7 hours old and already been on two grocery runs. Really nice to get the backpack off my back. Now for a National Deflector when riding season starts back up next year.

I've got the same rack (see post well below). It's great, my only beef is that it's so heavy. Aluminum or a thinner steel would be better. This rack is built to handle hundreds of lbs.
P.S. And my rack "accessories" are superb!
