Title: Mille on The Tail of the Dragon
Post by: Triple Jim on May 11, 2014, 06:48:34 PM
I just returned from my annual trip to the 2-stroke meet at Deals Gap, NC.  This year I took the Yamaha DT100 that I built for the trip, and the Mille GT.  I've taken my Kawasaki H2 for the past four meets, so I thought I'd find out how the Mille would do on The Tail of the Dragon and great motorcycling roads in that area.  It did very well, but that wasn't really a big surprise.  Here are some photos.

It was one hell of a good time! Just got back friday evening and want to head there again. Maybe a fall ride in October is in order?
Anyways here a pic of Heather hiding behind me on the CalVin

It would have been fun to see you there.  We get quite a few visitors who walk up to the row of 2-strokes at the motel, scratching their heads and wondering how so many old bikes wound up at the same place.  A lot of them had one back in the '70s and tell us stories.  One guy was a Guzzi owner and stopped to look at the Mille.  He has a Le Mans back in Texas, as I remember.  Craig and I did cause a little Guzzi presence at the meet.

Another year gone by, Craig Wiseman and I snuck our Guzzis into the 2015 2-stroke meet at Deals Gap:

Yes, I remember that photo.  I guess you know how close you were to low-siding.   :)   My Mille likes to drag the center stand lever.  I plan to modify it for better clearance before it puts me on the pavement.

Hello Titties has now been removed from the Eldo, I wouldn't want to offend anyone with such a nice old bike. I also had a wonderful time at the rally and next year will try harder to align our schedules for a ride together.

Yes, we stayed busy, didn't we?  Every time I took out the DT100 I rode it past your trailer, but you were never there.  I bet you got in a bunch of riding!  Next year I'll let you know ahead of time when we're going to do the Foothills Parkway to lunch and back ride.  Hopefully CC will be an experienced rider by then, too.

I forgot to post the photo of Riccardo, who was visiting from Italy.  Did he really have his Stelvio shipped over for his vacation?

I believe he did, it had a tag on the back I had never seen before. He was a interesting fella and spoke English well so was fun to talk to.
I rode quite a bit, Dofin seamed to be interested in finding great roads and would piss a big part of the day away on some goat trail from hell. One day of that was a plenty for me. When there are some of the best roads all around I see no need to get on some 20 mph rough road just to see something new.
