Just picked up an 04 and liking it so far but need a few tweaks please;
Anyone have advice for risers or changing to Nevada bars for up and back? If so, all cables replaced for either or select ones for each? I have long arms and torso and have had to put risers on almost every upright seating position bike i've owned…. :o
Lastly, anyone decat and add K&N with different exhaust like a 2 into 1? How much performance/hp can you expect? Is it worth it? Thanks! :PICS!:

De-cat, rock strainer and silly pipe will get you approximately three fifths of bugger-all in terms of a performance boost but will make it run poorly in the bottom end and midrange and accelerate engine wear. Rather than wasting money on crap like that I'd suggest buying a sump extension. Can't help with the ergo question.

Thanks Vasco DG!

Some careful rerouting of the cables will allow for a small rise and pullback . Wonder if the risers from a later V7 will work ?

Is 2" a small rise in your opinion?

Thanks
I installed a set of risers on a friends V7 Stone , seems like they were in that range . Had to remove the headlight and a few brackets to route the cables . Yeah , I think 2 inches is doable if the set up is the same .

Yeah
I still wonder if the Nevada bars would work and how much difference there is between the 2...

There is somebody who I have seen/heard at the WI rally with a B750 that has aftermarket cans, that sound absolutely off the top shelf fantastic! I can't say how the thing runs, but man does it sound mega cool.
-
Second Pete.
If you really need risers, go buy two 21 mm sockets, four 100X M10 bolts and give it a try. The cables won't need re-routing for a 40mm rise. Did it for a frozen shoulder some years ago but went back to normal as soon as possible.
Posted pics somewhere here.
-
Brilliant, I will give that a go.
Thanks!

Were the bolts fine thread or…..?
Did it matter what drive size on the sockets?
Sorry, just want to make one trip as opposed to my usual 3. ???
-
I bought these risers for a V7. Fit and finish were good, and adjustment in the rise were a good option over using regular sockets.
Edit: I did have to re-route the clutch cable, but that wasn't a problem.

I have a 2007 Breva 750 and added the below risers. Did not have to do much with the cables except adjust the clutch a bit. I like the more upright seating with these and they are well made.

21mm will rest fine on the seat of the triple tree. For the thread it's standard, think it's 1,5mm - but it's the same thread as the 60 mm bolts you allready got there....
-
Yeah I thought about the bolts I'll remove a minute after I replied… getting old I guess.
Thanks

Picked them up today, thanks for the tip.

p.s. Now if I could find a used center stand ::)

I have a 2004 Breva 750 with over 30,000 miles on it. Love the bike and you'll love yours too.
Here is a link to a "V7" text file I've been keeping for my own use. Hope you can find some helpful info there too.
http://www.dansher.com/bikepix/Guzzi/_V7_fyi.txt (http://www.dansher.com/bikepix/Guzzi/_V7_fyi.txt)
I upload updated versions of it about once a week as new info comes in on these Guzzi forums.

Ha...wait in line LOL. I have been looking for a used center stand for over two years and am too cheap to buy a new one.

Me too. (cheap that is) :)

Did you reroute any cables?
Can't tell from the pic but it looks like the brake cable goes in front of the headlight bracket?
Having some issues and got her all torn apart. Any help is much appreciated.

Is it just me or is the little Breva somewhat uninspiring to ride? Don't mean to step on any toes or get into a heated debate but…..
I like the weight but I frankly I expected a bit more oomph. And cornering might be fine but me toe touches pavement under the gear shift. 2 up riding? Forget about it imho.
Wished I'd have at least tried a Breva 1100 or V11 before I pulled the trigger. :winer
Anyone looking for a 750 Breva or trade or…..?
Like Guzzis but not sure this one is for me frankly. Just being brutally honest here, not hating on the brand.

Nope. Not even remotely uninspiring.
That is unless you just don't get it.
The small block is about handling first and foremost.
If you're looking for a rush of engine power than buying something slower than an 883 was definitely the wrong move.
A CARC Big Block like the B11 is a completely different animal and equally uninspiring in the opposite way. When I owned mine it certainly had more engine rush, and could ride along the highway at 80+ for hours without a care, but when it came to handling it couldn't hold a candle to the small block. It's much heavier with a completely different feel. Don't get me wrong it's a fine bike and might be more what you're after, but they are as different as two modern Guzzis can be.
As for dragging a toe as you describe, sounds like the suspension is not adjusted or is sacked...
-
What you need is a good, cheap used Griso 1100, plenty of power and great handling, and pretty comfy as well.

Worked OK for me just now:

Thanks Kevm
I think I get it with the handling and light weight but riding 2 up has me more worried than the oomph factor….

I have been considering the Griso father.
How wide is she, comparatively speaking to either Breva and is riding 2 up comfy?
Thanks,

These small blocks produce less than 50 hp so you have to compare apples to apples as they say!

understood, thanks tpeever
i just read about some doing 2 up without problems and maybe they were just extremely light?…. ???

All depends on your perspective. What does "doing 2 up without problems" mean? Of course a Guzzi smallblock will carry two people with ease. Maybe not very fast or very comfortably, but you wouldn't expect it to would you? My wife and I did a relatively short ride of about 200 miles two-up on her Nevada last summer. Riding position was pretty cramped for me (I was driving) but we got on just fine. I knew I wasn't going to be trying any double yellow line passes like I might have if we were riding my 1200 Sport but the Nevada pulled the two of us along without any fuss. I read a story a few years ago about a couple from the UK who toured all over North America on an early 60's Norton Dominator 88 just like I have. This is a 500cc twin with single carburetor and very modest compression ratio that generates about 30 hp. They got on just fine. I am guessing that they probably avoided freeways as much as possible but they made the journey without any problem. We need to keep perspective and remember that a 500cc motorcycle was a big bike back in the day. So it all depends on where you want to go, how fast you want to get there, how the two of you fit on the machine, seat comfort etc.
-
Agreed
That's why a fella' needs more than one bike in his stable. ::)
Thanks

I'm a good 225-230#.... My small block is a solo bike for a guy my size.
My wife is half that size and I'm sure she could take one of our kids 2-up on it no worries.
But I wouldn't go far 2-up with me and anyone else.
I did try taking my teenager to school once, but I felt like I was pushing the suspension and maybe even the powertrain a little bit.
-
Yeah that sounds spot on, thanks.
Keepin' my eyes open. :~)

Yea, a 500cc used to be a big bike. Pirsig (Zen and...) went cross country on a Honda 305cc. Two up.
His companions were two up on a BMW 600cc.
It's not about the power you need. It's about the power you think you need.

And that's fine, maybe he and his son were small guys.
I think if you put you and your wrenching companion on your V7 vs my wife and I on my V7 there's a difference of about one full person.
i.e. Jenn and I, because of ME, is probably = to YOU, your assistant, AND JENN. And I don't think you'd find that particularly comfortable, especially on extended rides on the highway (logistics of the third seat or who sat on whose lap aside ).
So it may be about how much power and comfort that you WANT vs. what someone else WANTS...and how well the smallblock fits that will vary with NEED.
-
It gets pretty subjective with how much power one wants in a motorcycle at least with me. :P
Not sure I view it as need. lol
Thanks for the comments gents.

Right now I'm working on a 106cc Gilera. In Italy it was made in 98cc, but for the USA they upgrade the displacement to 106.
Feel the power!
Kev and Inditx, it is subjective. And I seldom ride two up, so 750 is fine. I can understand where someone wants more with the extra gear and weight of another person. I merely object to people saying "you must have" this or that.

I don't think ANYONE here said anyone "must have".
And yes, it's LARGELY subjective, but let's be honest, there's a huge difference between 100# of rider and passenger and 300#+ of rider and passenger.
The former is an additional 25% of the bike's weight, the later is an additional 75%.
The 1TB V7 without a rider has a hp/weight ratio of 11.07 lbs/hp, but with ME as a rider you're talking more like 16.7 lbs/hp. with ME plus a 140# passenger that becomes 20.2 lbs/hp
My Breva 1100 had a ratio of 7.49 without rider, or 10.49 with ME, or 12.36 w/ ME and a 140# passenger.
To put those #'s in perspective:
V7 without a rider is approximately = to a WRX STI (11.37), but with ME as a rider slows to about a Nissan Juke (17.07), but with ME plus a 140# rider that becomes worse than a Jeep Patriot (V6, at 19.45).
In contrast
B11 without a rider is approximately = to a late-model V8 Boss Mustang (8.2), and with ME as a rider only slows to something between a Dodge Charger SRT8 (9.3) and a BMW M 235i (10.95), and even with ME and a 140# passenger is still as quick as the current WRX (12.38).
Or stated another way, the Breva 1100 (and presumably most big blocks) are JUST as fast with about 365# of rider, passenger, and gear as a V7 smallblock would be via REMOTE CONTROL.
That's an objective analysis of some very real differences.
Knowing that, whether one WANTS one or the other is a completely subjective thing that well, you already know my answer.... I sold the B11 to buy the V7.
-
Cool, was that the same as the Sears 106 made by Gilera?
As I have said before I don't care what a person rides as long as it's on 2 wheels it's ok by me. ;-T
-
Absolutely, a great way to state it Kev m.
Now let's not even get started on torque. :o
inditx.
p.s. I had a Rocket III not because of need but pure desire to be able to pull stumps out of the ground. (which I never did) ;)

Yep, it is. Nice bike, but it has moped-style electrical system that I'm playing with now.
6 volt, AC (alternating current).

Yeah my brother rebuilt one and had "fun" with that too. ???
I'm sure you'll get her running' in no time.

It's an issue with the ignition system. I'll post it separately, to see what people say.
