There's a nice '89 Lemans 1000 on ebay right now. Seller is in Portland. Anyone know the seller? I'm really tempted to bid on this. link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/161541134018?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Don't know anything about the bike/seller but what is listed sure looks like a bike you could ride and enjoy. It makes more sense than buying an old bike to restore. Been there and done that.

It would be a change from my usual bike investment strategy. I ordinarily put tons of time and money into my bikes, and then sell for a big loss.
-
No need to wait for the auction:

That's nice... I like it. :)

Lucius! everything about that bike is nice.. Staintune ! ad says OBO, go in w/$5k in hand and take home fast.
-
That hit's all my buttons. ;-T

I just had a moment to read the full ad. I agree -- it certainly has all the right stuff! If you want one, go get it quick!

Except proper air filters.

Except proper air filters.
+Except a proper instrument dash
& the numerous paint touch-ups.
Can't help thinking Tobit's LeMans IV was so much nicer!
(I know it's not for sale, just for comparison)
Would a sorted Mark IV have a reserve price of $5000?

You are not alone, my MO as well. Love the paint job on this one.
-
That looks decent considering the service it's had. I don't care for the dash, but he says it comes with spares and the original dash if you decide to tackle that project (plus bags).
I seriously doubt the 18k original miles statement. It's had way too many repairs, modifications and body damage for that claim to be believable in my experience. I'd call the seller 503-515-5502 to get a better impression.
-
It's close by, wouldn't mind looking at it for a member.

That is a gorgeous LeMans.
I do have one question though…
My ‘89 LeMans, in the same livery as this one was sold new to me in 1990 as a LeMans V, not a IV….
Was I mistaken all these years or is this a typo on the seller’s behalf…?
I do not know where my former LeMans ended up after the fellow that I sold it to sold it.
Best,
Rob

Nice but I'd be concerned about all the front end damage. Instruments rebuilt, removed rubber console, cracks and breaks at just about all the fairing mounting points, bars, etc. looks like the fairing was run into something.
Might not be anything to worry about and I've sure been into mine a time or two over the years (heads, clutch, flywheel). Nothing wrong with the K&Ns, I've run over 30,000 on mine. A nice touch is the clutch cable clamp just over the brake pedal. Keeps the cable from kinking right as it attaches to the gearbox. A common cable failure point. The same can be achieved by putting a nut on both sides of the transmission mounting boss. Details.
$5k? Good luck. Maybe $3,500. Although Ebay selling prices can be all over the place. (Thanks for the compliment Steph!)

It is a bit hard to see the purpose of the modified dash, if not to repair crash damage. I'll see if the seller returns my email. MMNorth, if you have time to kill, a visit would be very helpful.

No problem, I am free till march. Pm me if you need help.

Very nice!

If I had the funds I would buy this bike right now. I had an '89 V brand new and it was my favorite bike for years. I traded in my '85 IV and it was a big difference, much more refined details. Better forks, switch gear, and I liked the frame mounted fairing better than the smaller IV style. This one has a lot of good performance stuff that would cost a bunch to do. The Staintune exhaust alone cost $2K nowadays, cheaper back in the day when I bought the same exhaust for my bike, and that exhaust sounds great.
These early Lemans V don't show up often; I haven't seen the '89 colors again since I sold mine. I still have the brochure for it in my files.
timing is everything....

Ducati front end? Or just a Cagiva Allazurra front wheel and M1R fork? Nice.
Tobit.

Tobit.
Is not the original stock fork ? ( Just asking i am not an expert )
Anyway , it's a nice marzocchi .
It will look sweet with a 18 in front wheel .
Very good priced bike IMHO .
-
Looks like a marzocchi m1r fork and 16 inch wheel from a ducati paso 750 was transplanted. Triple trees too. Not necessarily a bad thing.

As of now there's one bid at $5k and it hasn't met reserve. If I was seriously interested I'd contact the seller and ask for the reserve.
However, that ebay bike is very rough compared to the one advertised here in NJ.
The NJ Le Mans is a much nicer example for significantly less money. You could have it shipped to the west coast and probably have some money left over.

And if the 1/4 fairing of the LeMans IV bothers you, take it off!
Looks alright:

I convinced myself that $5k was too much. We'll see if it returns at a lower price.
