Title: Givi Maxia top box, backrest.
Post by: injundave on January 03, 2015, 09:25:43 PM
I recently bought a Givi E50 Maxia top box. It was second-hand when I bought it. It came fitted with an accessory back rest which is slightly damaged. Does anyone have one surplus to requirements or know of something I may be able to repair it with? It seems to be made of high density rubber foam.

Can't you just glue some vinyl on it nice and tight?

Couldn't you go to the Givi USA web site or ebay and get a replacement?

Apparently the one I need is an E83N, which has been discontinued. I'm not sure about the stretched vinyl idea but there is an auto-upholsterer nearby and I will consult him, but I would prefer the genuine article if I can find one.

I assume it has a type of backing plate where it screws into the box. I would bring it to an upholstery shop and have them cut away the tore up foam, replace it with new foam and fashion a vinyl cover to match your saddle.  This is what is usually done by custom saddle people like Russell and Mayer.

When you see the price of the simple block of foam, you will take it to the upholsterer.

A couple of coats or GE Silicone seal should make a serviceable repair. And if you're good it can look okay.
