I realize this may be sacrilegious to post here but I just wanted to see if anyone would be interested in trading a Guzzi for my 96 R1100 RSL. Only 18k miles, owned by my father - a life long BMW rider. Only issue is one fork seal needs to be replaced, weeping a bit. Other than that it's in great shape, lots of new body work replaced. Great touring bike. I already have a SP1000 but at this point I would trade if for just about any vintage Guzzi: 850t, T3, CX100, Ambo etc. I'm located in NYC. Here's the craigslist post with photos of the bike. http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/mcy/4828193395.html
Thanks,

nice looking bike with classic styling before BMW got strange. I'm a little leery of the early ABS that was trouble prone.
-
Almost the exact 96 I had... except mine was an RSA.
Nice bike in a lot of ways, but I much prefer my Guzzis.
The only trouble I ever had with the ABS is that it didn't like low voltage at startup on an old battery and would go into trouble mode.

It's true, the design of this model has held up well esp compared with other beemers of that period. The RS only had the fairing that went halfway down the bike but the RSL has the entire lower fairing which looks much more complete.
I don't mind the ABS, it breaks well and you can still break hard with it.

I don't want brakes that break well or hard, I want brakes that stop the bike! ;)

This is true. My statement was vague, not the breaking!

Those were great bikes. I had a friend with a red RSA back in the '90s. I rode it a few times. Really competent sport-tourer!

Very nice BMW. I got to ride an R1100, first year telelever, for a day to put miles on it as a dealer demo. At the time I had a '90 R100RT, the LeMans IV and a Monza V50. Rode up the Lake Michigan coast and had a wonderful time.

A Monza is exactly what I need.

that's a great bike, the only bike I ever had I regret letting go. Picked it up in Munich in the last year of the Euro delivery program, 1993. Number 648 off the production line. Traded it to a guy in NYC for a 1000S in '99.

And now would be the perfect opportunity to trade back the 1000s to a guy in NYC for the same bike right??????? ;-T
Think about what great bike karma it would get you!

Nice bikes I had a 97 RS for a while, Only bike i have owned that just fit me, seat was good never thought about replacing it, I hated the gear box made a Guzzi box feel slick, and the off throttle abruptness , but I got used to it. I wouldn't mind having another.

Here's a BMW RS chasing a 660cc MZ Scorpion on some roads I've *very* familiar with. ;D

that Skorpion is just quirky enough that I'd like to have one.
I had a Silver Star pass thru my hands before I ever got to ride it much..

rider says he's on an 84 R100RS. see comments under video.

At any rate, he is a good rider.. smooth. I saw the video because I'm looking at MZs, which I think could run away and hide from the big Beemer on those roads.. ;D

It probably is an '84 , still a twin shocker , last 1000 for a couple of years . The Skorpions are cool , but I wouldn't put too much money on one smoking a well ridden oil head RS on most any normal road , those things can rock .

Wouldn't it be easier to push it into a field and set fire to it and then claim the insurance?
