I think any five speed would be a suitable replacement. I'd stay away from the early ones because of the inverted shift pattern and the thrust washers on the counter shaft. The later five speeds, late 90s and up have the plastic main bearing cages that have given some trouble. I have a five speed from an 89 mille that would work fine. Let me know if you're interested.

Do you have a standard MK IV or do you have a MK IVSE?  The gearing is not the same on the MK IVSE. These motorcycles had the engine cases and transmission painted black.  The SE's were painted red and white. In this photo the MK IV is on the right.

Matt is correct in that the SE has a unique transmission. From what I've heard parts are generally not available but Charlie Cole is the expert. Also correct is that any 5 speed will bolt right in. Newer ones do shift better I think. A couple of them on ebay now or that Mille one would be good.

Also, the V7 Sport tranny had a shifter return spring that only had two loops and was prone to breaking.  (They're probably all gone by now)  And the Le Mans and all later 5 speeds had 3 loops.  File away under Guzzi trivia.  It may be in Guzziology.
