Title: Motul 7100 4T 10W60 is it red?
Post by: hammick on January 22, 2015, 12:49:54 PM
I bought a Cali 1400 with 640 miles.  Break in service papers came with the bike.  Says Motul 10W60 was used.

I check the oil for the fist time today and I get concerned because it is red.  Looks like ATF.

I call the dealer that did the the service and they said Motul 7100 4T is red in color.  Is this correct?  Couldn't find anything really doing a Google search.

Bike runs great.

And also is the oil checked with the dip stick screwed in or just setting on threads?  Bike balanced or on sidestand?  The service manual isn't clear.

Thanks.

I use the stuff.  It's red, though not as red as redline tranny fluid.  Also doesn't pour like your grand-dad's oil.

Check your oil with the bike upright and level (not on the sidestand). Unscrew the dipstick and wipe it off, then insert it as far as it will go without engaging the threads. That's the way I check mine and it works well. I use Motul 7100 4T 10W60 and I, too, can confirm that it's red.

This is the first bike I've had that called for 10W60 and my dealer didn't have it. He said to just use synthetic 10W40... I suggested that doing that might void the warranty and (more importantly) the bike calls for 10W60 for a reason. He's stocking Motul 10W60 now.

Look out for Motul 300V 15w50, it's lime green, almost fluorescent!
Hmmm, wonder if it was commissioned by Kawasaki  ;D

Hey, man; I just ate a little orange tablet, and now my oil's paisley!

It starts out nice and red. After a few thousand miles it becomes more brown.
