OK, it's always possible I'm losing my mind, but....I wanted a tripmeter on my T3 to monitor my mileage, so I bought a G5 speedo off ebay. The butt end of the needle was broken off, so I had to remove the bezel to get rid of the broken piece, then reattached it without the butt end. And it only reads to 80, but I figured the times I'd go past that would be pretty few. So I tried it out and the tripmeter works fine, the speedo seems to register roughly the right speeds...but when I mounted it, the display read 21384. I took it to get gas, rode mebbe 12-16 miles or so, and now the damn thing reads 21360....?! Izzat possible? I'm so confused....Mebbe i should mention that it originally had a 90 degree fitting that I took off. Guess I'll put it back on and see what happens then....Does a 90 degree gear drive reverse the direction?

Somethings up here. You can't reverse an odometer, didn't you see Ferris Bueller's day off? Even if your 90 degree fitting reversed the direction that the cable spins, it wouldn't take miles off. Did you maybe record the initial mileage incorrectly?

Mebbe i did. I'll double check it again before I start trying to "fix" it. Wouldn't be the first time I had a brain fart.
Thanks for the reply.

I just use a Sharpie marker on the speedo glass for trip meter. Simple, cheap, effective and reliable.

Keep riding and pretty soon you'll have a brand new bike!

Hmm, so simple. I guess it just wipes off? I'll have to try that.

OK, I'm an idiot! And dyslexic, apparently. It must have been 21348, not 21384. It works fine. Yes, I used to use the marker method too. But I kept smudging off the number, or I didn't have the marker with me when I got gas, or I forgot the number by the time I got home or something. Anyway, now I just reset the tripmeter and act like I know what I'm doing. sorry for the no account thread. roy

Alcohol eyeglass cleaning wipes or a shot of brake cleaner on a paper towel will remove the Sharpie in short order. If on the road and you run out of room on the glass bezel scribble the Sharpie over the old marks and wipe away before it dries.

Wonder if a "dry erase" marker would work?

It will rub off if you even gently touch it or smear if caught in the rain. Sharpie or wax pencil.
