Title: 14 amp charging system to 20 amp conversion
Post by: guzzifan on February 06, 2015, 12:40:25 AM
I have a 14 amp system on my 850-T but have collected all the parts for a 20 amp system.  I notice a few more wires are required for the conversion (more electrical terminals on the 20 amp than 14 amp layout).  Can anyone give me a rundown on what wires I need to add and where they go?  Thanks.

If you're looking at the connector at the "Y" terminal on the alternator stator -- that one doesn't go anywhere.  It's the common point of the three stator coils.  If there is a difference at the regulator you'll have to wait for more answers -- I don't remember there being any different, but I'm old and forgetful.

Installation tip -- install the stator with the brushes in the ~10:00 position.  Urban legend has it that the brushes don't bounce so much at that angle and so the charging is better.
