The following is copy directly from Moto Guzzi USA -
We are pleased to announce a Special Edition V7 Racer that has been developed in Mandello del Lario exclusively for the USA customer. This 2015 V7 Racer will be presented to the customer with a stunning "Verde Legnano" tank. This design pays perfect homage to the iconic Lino Tonti designed V7 Sport of 1971 which many consider to be the most beautiful Moto Guzzi ever built.
Only 50 units of this Verde Legnano Special Edition will be made available, giving the owner a much cherished and unique machine that celebrates the heritage of the V7 model and the revolutionary designer who created a heritage that continues today.
These are not specifically "numbered" bikes like the 2013 V7 Racers.
There is NO indication at this point that you will be able to order ONLY the green gas tank from your dealer. The bikes are not V7 II's

And here's the original for comparison...

So what, it's beautiful. That chrome tank was probably my biggest objection to that bike. Green with red frame looks great. Gimmie one with Stone wheels and I might just need another V7.
-
See... We're suckers. The U.S. is enamored with paint. They've been doing this for years. How is this any different? They will sell trust me.
The drama that's created by small changes on this board to the V7 is something to behold. We have pages and pages of "how much gas does the new tank hold??" and gear ratios of a 6 speed. In the end, the conclusion is ho hum... but boy does it get the wallets to jump out of the wadded panties. Winter is high time. Watch this one play out..
-
This is just a way to get rid of the remaining 5 speeds and old engine mounted frames.
So in other words they are going to use the U. S. market to dump the leftover frames and transmissions into.
I would hope people are smarter then that.
Buy the tank and re-paint the bike yourself.
As it is the U.S. 2015 is already a dumping ground. Larger audience percentage of weak minded sheep goes up. Smaller population in Europe makes for a more difficult wool pulling exercise.
OK, I'm looking at this picture of that bike. This is nothing more then just paint for cripes sakes.
Spot on! ;-T This tank looks like a leftover V7 from a couple years back. Maybe just leftover paint. Are we that forgetful? You all remember that greenie? Maybe that was the cafe? It's getting hard to keep up. Looks like an old parts bin re-constituted exercise.
-
I for one remember loving the Green Café.
I also remember saying "too bad they didn't paint the frame too".
I also remember saying "I like the Racer, but I HATE the chrome tank".
Sucker for paint? OK, sure... I like what I like.
And I have no problem with the current bike.... and the current racer has some things my Stone does not. I THINK I could actually own and enjoy both...
Not saying I will - doesn't look like it if only 50 being made.

and that candy color red on the frame is all wrong..

Here's an '09 That we did for a customer a few years ago.
Keep in mind that was a plastic tank.

I don't think people are going to throw their wallets at dealers, I just think it's nice they're giving people an option.
I don't think it's nefarious or underhanded. To me it seems like "hey, a lot of people said they didn't dig the chrome tank, but, they like everything else. What other guzzi had a red frame? Paint up a few tanks and give people an option."
You'll never make EVERYONE happy "I wish it had mag wheels, 900cc's and a heated speedometer...then I'd buy it right now!"...but you really shouldn't attack them for providing an option.
I also dig the color. It's different compared to everything else all of the other companies are doing (Flat black/titanium/Yawn).

Without sounding philosophical, all bikes are options Phil. We're pointing out some rather obvious things with this snow job. This one takes the cake is all I'm saying.

Very nice. I wish they would add or give the option for dual discs upfront. Then again, like paint, I guess one can add this later for personal taste.
-
I like that one fine, tho the whole racing badge thing isn't my shot of grappa.
And, I have started a V7 piggy gosling bank, but a) there's not enough in it yet to fill a V7's tank with JP4 recreational fuel, much less buy one; and, 2) this V7 isn't the one. ::)
Seriously, while I don't think ABS is the kitten's mew and thus would not rule out a machine -- and particular, this model -- without it, I want to see if Mandello does anything more dramatic than livery to the US-bound V7 line before putting money anywhere near my mouth.
While never seeming to mind the sight of competitors' taillights receding into the distance, at some point, I would think that Piaggio needs to reel in at least some of that gap with ABS, TC, etc., or fold their Guzzi hand in some or all models. :'(
But, I'm predicting they will do something beyond paint, and that the Moto Grappa will get a new member c'17. By then, too, I figure Luigi's parts bin will get a bit lower, too. :D

I like it. I like the green tank, I like the red frame, I could do without the 7s.
-
The tank will probably fit on the new V7 II motorcycle, so you could buy the Racer Special and a V7 II and swap tanks.
-
There sure are a lot of colors on the V7R/L :o

:+1 DITTO TO WHAT KEV SAID :+1
The chrome & leather schtick was a little too glam for my tastes.
I have a 5-speed ('04 Breva 750) and in 30,000 miles there has never been a moment when I wished it had 6 speeds. The wide torque curve on the thrusty lil' 750 motor would be just as happy with only 3-speeds.
Just hoping M-G not planning to assault their demographic with overly high prices.

I have had several 5 speed small blocks and can't see the need for a 6 speed. A 4 speed would be perfect.

4-speed perhaps a little too l-o-n-g
5-speed perfect
6-speed not getting it "currently". Part of a grand plan?

Send out your tank to a painter. The fenders you can do with rattle can flat black.
You're running out of room in that garage.
And all I have to do is completely strip the bike to the frame so I can send it out for powdercoating. :o

I can just imagine 3rd gear heaven like on my Quota. 3rd gear was great for anything between 30 and 70. Having had a 6 speed CARC and several 6 speed Ducati's the Italian like to gear to the moon. 6th gear on all the Italian bikes I've has was great at about 95 MPH+. Other than that pretty useless.

GuzziTech ECU flash

Marketing.
Our base Honda Fit with a 5-speed manual tranny is a great machine. A C-130 of cars. Does it all without fuss or fanfare. A bit spartan, but we are just fine with that. But, on the slab at mildly illegal speeds, the engine is at 3K and working harder than it needs to work. It would also get even better mpg if it had another cog or if 5th were a bit taller.
So, for 2015, Honda decided to make the manual into a 6-speed. Cool, I thought. Maybe we should replace our 125K model.
Then, I saw that the new 6 was the same ratio as the old 5th. Huh?
Gotta be marketing as with only the top end needed fixing and now Fit owners can paddle their way up to speed with more effort and less gain.

Jeezuz Christmas this is a rough crowd. Guzzi doesn't listen to us! When Guzzi does something proactive it's a scam. Why can't they let new bikes sit on the floor for 10 years like they used to so I can buy them dirt cheap? Why are dealers going out of business? Why aren't there more dealers?
You guys kill me. Never satisfied.
-
Rodger that Kev said. Like the green. Never liked the chrome V7R tanks, my 2012 with black tank is much more handsome.
Waiting for Moto Guzzi to build a bit more powerful Cafe. Then I will bite.

Actually Guzzi satisfied my needs in the 70's ;D If Guzzi listened to me points & condenser, Loop frames and LM1's would be current offerings.

As a guy who has bought four new Guzzis in this century and been responsible for other new sales -- including three by my brother -- no guilt on my end for voicing an opinion on this.
I have in mind getting a V7, and like the present model just fine. The timing isn't right for me, but will be. In the meantime, I see nothing wrong with hoping the Piaggio suits are doing something to improve the marque.
I lust for several retro and vintage motorcycles, but am just not a "Bring Back the Eldo" kind of guy. I may be a fossil, but do not think a motorcycle company can survive, much less thrive, if it is stuck in 19XX.
Time for a sip of something from Kentucky while I watch another episode of Commissario Montalbano. I commend both of those to all of you, too. :D
Ciao.

For the record I too love, PREFER, and appreciate the old stuff. 3 of my 4 Guzzi bikes are 40+ years old.
But we all should be invested in 2015 Guzzi surviving.

I hope Guzzi is making and selling bikes for decade to come. But if their survival is contingent upon me buying a garish leftover parts bike, they can close the doors now. The V7R/L is horrid.

Doubt their survival is contingent on whether they sell you a V7R/L. They're only "making" 50 to clear out old inventory. Smart business.
-
I like it. So what if its marketing... I still like how it looks. Of course I'd change the suspension, flash the ECU...then ride the piss out of it.... It is still a V7....it can represent the marque well...
Just what I like...

They are making 50 bikes! guzzi future In no way depends on you nattering nabobs of negativity!
Can't we just hold off a little bit till somebody is actually road a six speed before we decry it's worthlessness?

"A heated speedometer"...By Jove, I believe Phil's onto something!

I have a 2010 model V7C. It is a joy for me even though it has a plastic tank, square cylinders, dual throttle bodies, white paint, and all the other shortcomings of the model. It has quit twice on the road on me. In spite of that, it has been for me a spectacular ride, and I have enjoyed it immensely. I think if you enjoy riding a motorcycle, you will enjoy any of the 750 small blocks. I hope everyone here gets to enjoy one of these as much as I have enjoyed mine.
-
And dual throttle bodies, no warranty... Is it at least a metal tank?
I'd love to know the downside to dual throttle bodies? There've been 4 Guzzi's I've owned with them and I've never touched them. Is there something I'm missing?
-

Well you do have to reset the TPS every now and then with free software and it does take about 10 seconds to do that.
I much prefer the dual TB's and square cylinders on the 2012 over the 2013+ bikes. They just don't look right to me.
-
You have to balance them at one point, and most of the late-models came with plastic tanks.
It's also an aesthetic thing, as I prefer the 1tb motor.
None are big deals, just preferences.
-
In 11 yrs. I've never had to do TPS or balancing adjustment <shrug>.
-
Like I said, you will have to touch it eventually. Not that it is a big deal.
I just like the simplicity of a single throttle body.
Again, it's a preference. Like the shape of the cylinders etc.
BTW, in on record for saying the throttle bodies shouldn't need rebalance for a long time. It took something like 5 years and 20k miles before the Jackal needed a tweak. Not bad, but still more components than necessary, and a somewhat overly busy aesthetic.
-
Why would anyone complain? I like the nice color. Then again I understand why it's important. My wife loves the chrome tank, but then again she understands why the tank is chrome.
-
What happen both times it quit on you?
The first time one of the wires broke its connection off the ignition switch, the second time the junction block for the rectifier/regulator had excessive resistance and melted.
-
Here's is mine:

Glad it does.
And, really, as we all know, that's all that matters.
Something, and often many things, speak to all of us in different ways.
It's when they coo in our ears that we have to be very, very careful. ;)

-
I can imagine troubleshooting that stuff was a pain?
Electrical can send you into so many directions.
I like to ask these sort of questions because often times this stuff will repeat on other bikes. So at least now this give me a couple places to start looking if electrical trouble occurs.
First I've read of electrical demons with these small blocks.
So far for me the bike has been great. NO complaints at all.
The ignition switch problem happened on trip home from a visit to NYC in a rural spot along the Delaware River. I found the switch only had two wires going to it, so I joined them together to eliminate to switch and current was restored to get home. Looked like a poor solder job when I disassembled the switch. The melted junction block from the rect/reg happened to a few of that model. Eliminated to block and all has been well.
-
So what, it's beautiful.

I hope that it isn't a left over from the V7 Cafe, because that would mean that it is the small-capacity plastic tank.
-

Yes, it is.
-
Well, I like the idea of having all those switchable OEM components available as well having an increasing number of 3rd party accessories for the small block series. ;-T
And a nice tarted up U.S only special version will inspire other prideful owners to create their own special variations of it.
But enough with the Stone flat black treatment! You're Special in the US now. Lets party!

Anyone who wonders why, of all markets, the USA doesn't get the full Guzzi range need look no further than some of the comments on this thread.
Fickle, fickle crowd.
If you dont like the green tanked V7R (which I seem to recall quite a few have dreamed of here) don't buy it.
Don't waste your life whingeing about a bike you have no intention of buying anyway.
Sheesh.

I think that looks great. Just take off the V7 plates and scrub the black off the rims (I like the standard aluminum rim look) and it's a pretty sweet ride!
Wish I were in a position that it would be an easy buy for me. :'( Sadly not today! But maybe in the future I'll get one used (if I'm still in the USA) or a V7 II and repaint the tank to match, looks great.
-
I like Guzzi Limited Editions. And, I like the idea of something other than chrome on a V7R tank!
:bike
-
I like the idea of creating a "touring" model. Not a stretch considering this is a "racer" model. The gas mileage makes it an appropriate steed and a Jammer up front would round out the amenities. With a new 6 speed overdrive it's well on its way. Backrest/highway pegs optional. You watch.

Dumping ground for 50 units?
I think its a sweet bike. As mentioned earlier, twin discs would really complete the package.
The custom posted is a looker, too.
-
Just... scrub the black off the rims (I like the standard aluminum rim look).
Me too.
-
I like the idea. Yes, it's marketing, but it's a good and simple move if it will help sell more bikes. Triumph does this with its modern classics (Bonneville, T100, Thruxton). A bit of paint here, a decal there, and you have a new limited edition that people want.
-
just a way to tart up NOS for the US market. We get new paint the rest of the world get V7 II. It's wrong, just wrong! :beat_horse

Tart up?
Tone down, if you ask me.
The chrome tanks have been done to death...

I wonder if the yet to be announced Euro Special Racer V7 II limited edition will look exactly the same. (cept for the Euro spec bits of course)
;)
-
Their "Limited Edition Racer" is starting to remind me a lot of Barbara Striesand's "final concert tour" that happened more than once. :wife:
Just poking fun, but love watching the excitement that comes about with ANY change of ANYTHING with this bike. Guzzi could stick a dog turd on the front fender and there would be smell-fest of opinions for purchase. :P
-
If I were in the market for a new Racer, I'd probably try to see if I could get my hands on that model, but I'm not racing out to my dealer to replace my chrome-tanked goddess. I wonder how much extra they will charge for what looks like just different tank paint. If the bike came set up with some upgraded suspension, a color matched Record kit and the Arrow pipes then it might be something limited and "special". I think they should have at least made the rear cowl green too. FWIW I've seen DIY green edition V7s that look better than this one, they didn't go far enough.
-
As a comparison triumph has the ace, new church and 214 as limited edition models of the three Bonnie variants. Last year there were at least 2 limited editions. Mechanically I'm told the bikes are unchanged since the move to the 865 motor and fuel injection.
-
Well, there you have it Joliet, Triumph is obviously big into dumping NOS in the US market too!
-
The first time one of the wires broke its connection off the ignition switch, the second time the junction block for the rectifier/regulator had excessive resistance and melted.
The same has happened to my 2010 V7C - the junction box is fixable on the side of the road with a length of wire, solder, wire cutters & a blue flame cigarette lighter. The ignition needed replacing - after I limped the 5k home. Then there was the rusted drive shaft (thank you NRMA Premium Care for the lift home) - now I grease it regularly. Oh yes, and the broken clutch cable.
Still love it, with only 115,000k under its belt, it doesn't seem to need a TPS re-set. I could use the 22L metal tank; already have changed in the rear sets & lower bars; would appreciate a gloss painted swingarm; but like the white paint job - doesn't show the dirt so much either.
A de-blinged racer would be fine - remove all the fussy bits, paint or vinyl wrap the (22L metal) tank (try leaving the knee indents chrome) & there you go. Sooner or later you may have to spend money on the suspension anyway. And sooner or later you probably make other changes that make it yours. It's a guzzi. You just have to decide which is your preferred starting platform.
If I didn't already have a satisfactory mount, I'd be tempted to wait for the Mk II. Easier servicing (all the fill plug point up & all the drain plugs are easily accessible), the clutch, the clutch operating arm & the cable adjustment have been improved. I do occasionally hunt for an overdrive, so an extra gear may work. The new one certainly LOOKS more balanced from afar. I'll have to check out Johannes' Mk II Special once it's been run in. I wonder if he's picked it up yet.
My two cents,
Mal
-
If one can wish...I'd love to see the V7 II in 1000S livery: chrome fenders, green frame, black tank and side covers with green stripes that go all the way across the tank. Dual disc on the front and spoke wheels...perfect.
Lacking that combo how 'bout the baby Stelvio with about 850cc and all the V7 II bits?

I'm holding out for the 6 speed automatic, rear view camera, GPS with several language options, run flat tires, Automatic braking and throttle controls, on the fly suspension adjustment, collision alarm, rain sensor, face shield wiper, temperature controlled heat and air creature environmental comfort settings with body temperature reading options, on board computer that can translate languages, figure out on the fly gas consumptions, air bag, 911 alert if you go off the road and hit something, deer alarm tracking GPS locators front and rear. Ohhhh the automatic monkey butt self adjusting multi air channel seat with the 15 minute warning that a rest stop is eminent.
WHAT ??!!
You forgot to list the Most Importantant Thing: Gold Wing Air Bags.

Motorcycledaily.com has an article regarding a limited edition V7 "racer". The bike is pretty with a snazzy red frame, but with 46 hp at the crankshaft, I'm unclear as to just what it will be racing against.

I don't think anyone has posted this new V7 yet.

And they are expanding production of the V7 II extra special, by retooling the original Piaggio factory!

I just noticed on Yahoo's home that Moto Guzzi has unveiled the new V7 Verde Legnano Special Edition Racer, I like the look.
I wish I could post it here but my expertise is lacking and I apologize if this has already been posted.

So I noticed that the chrome Racer is no longer part of the US Guzzi bike lineup on US website. http://www.motoguzzi-us.com/ (http://www.motoguzzi-us.com/) The only have the Green Legnanao limited edition. Anyone with any "insider" knowledge??

What are you wanting to know?
It's well documented and discussed that the "green tank racer" is a USA-only special edition for 2015.
Verde Legnano SE is just a regular V7 Racer, but with the green fuel tank... It's not a V7-II...

Until yesterday, Moto Guzzi's US website listed BOTH the regular V7 Racer and the "special edition" green-tank V7 Racer. Now it shows only the latter.
I have no inside knowledge, but I suspect Moto Guzzi USA is preparing to introduce the new V7 II Racer (and V7 II Special) very soon. Any left-over V7 Racers will probably get the new green tank so they can be sold as special editions. (At least, that is what I would do if I were in charge.)

I must've missed that.

I'm pretty sure that's what they've done. I read somewhere that the green tanks are dealer-installed. A dealer would have to confirm that, though...

I just merged your thread into the Verde Legnano SE threadfest.
