Lately I've noticed the WG post editor has a mind of its own. It makes up words for me as I type, changes my spelling, and puts the cursor where it thinks it will look cute, not where I want to do my typing. It's like an insistent 4 year old putting the silverware away HIS way. Is there any way to shut it off, or do I need to write my posts in another editor and paste them into WG?

Firefox does not do that to me. There is no auto-correct, odd cursor movement, etc.. I believe your problems are at your end, not the forum.
-
I am on Safari and you describe exactly what it does for me. It changes entire meanings sometimes
if I don't catch it before hitting post. It just did it again, changing it to I in the top line but I caught it
in the act.

I have experience no auto-correcting using Firefox on this forum or any other.

The auto correct on Safari can be shut off.
Got into edit and open the menu. UNCHECK auto spelling
Notice mine is unchecked hence the option is in light grey.

This WG typing box is the only place it happens for me. Not in any other website or text editor. It happens on at least three of my computers running IE.

Uh oh that is real strange RK. You know computers.

The beginning of the machine takeover that we've all heard so much about? Might explain a lot .... ;)

Well, I know enough about stuff in general to conclude that three computers doing the same odd thing at one website probably points to the problem being the web and not my machines.

I have been using Firefox (Win7) and have not experienced this problem. Don't have a clue as to what might be happening, but the way you describe it would sure be a PITA.

There`s your problem ;D

A search for "internet explorer auto-correct" turns up a lot of results from people who want to turn off that feature, and how to do that. Why it's active only on this forum is a question I sure don't have the answer to.

My IPad does the same thing when posting on here. Doesn't matter if I'm using Safari or Chrome. Just started doing it recently after an IOS update...:((

It let me remove the check from the (check spelling while typing) but refuses to let me uncheck (correct spelling automatically)
Sorry electronic tyrant.
Whatever became of the spellcheck icon you could click on for individually chosen words ? I had it years ago and it worked very well,
they should not have fixed it.

Judging from the sorts of typos I'm seeing in people's posts, this is happeningto more of you than you think. Proof your copy, guys -- you might be amazed.
I see it got me in my topic title, even. I had typed "Self-correction errors are driving me nuts". It helped itself to "Self-correcting errors are driving me nuts."

Absolutely, all the worlds problems are caused by Microsoft :D

That's not all that funny. Or maybe I should say that there is a fair amount of truth to that.

How far up the slope do you roll the beaver? And what does that have to do with with how many seeds a grasshopper with a wooden leg can kick out of a dill pickle?

How far you roll it probably depends on the particular circumstances. What it has to do with the grasshopper I have no personal experience with, so I don't know. The beaver quote in my signature was in a Hot Rod magazine article in the 1970s. As I remember, it was the lesson learned after a car had a catastrophic failure at the drag strip, but maybe someone else here remembers it more clearly.
