Title: I know you already know this but......
Post by: Curtis Harper on February 23, 2015, 06:51:10 AM
This is really a pretty damn good forum. I don't venture out to many non guzzi related forums, especially over the weekends, but over the last couple of days I tried to learn a few things about GT 750 Suzuki's and KZ 1000 Police bikes. I was banned before I could ever even read the forums because I was either not a member of a club or I was related to a dealership. They had no idea of what I wanted to ask or why. Hell I didn't even get the chance to piss anybody off.

So anyway, a shout to Luap, Luap's Girl and Rocker for keeping it going. It some times is like a big ol dysfunctional family housefire, Crap I meant camp fire.

Agreed.  I always get an answer to my (sometimes stupid) questions, and it comes QUICKLY.

When I was restoring my Ducati Scrambler, I joined several "Forums" and had to wait days for one reply.  It was often the same one or two guys responding.  Don't even get me going on the vintage BMW forums.

As much sillyness that goes on here, it is a great GUZZI resource.

You don't have to tell them everything, you know.   You could be that 16-year-old Finnish girl Faana, or that 7 foot tall Cameroonian, Ntombe, who uses Water Buffalos every day and is a member of their club.    How are they going to know?   It's the Internet, fly free!

Couldn't agree more Curtis Hell your not bad yourself........... ..............helpe d me out when I was struggling. As a resource its invaluable and I try to do my bit when I can (although usually get beaten to it).

Learned loads about the bikes.

I have but one complaint, would you mechanical geniuses STOP posting build threads. Apart from the depression, there is also the inadequacy to cope with its just plain BAD for my mental health    ::)

When I was messing around with some Mercedes diesels, I tried to join a couple forums. I got on to one about alternative fuels but, the was refused more than once from the Mercedes Benz owner's forum. I'm a factory trained Mercedes technician, I thought that would be an asset. I guess it doesn't matter how much you know about Bosch engine management systems when the main discussions are where to get good floor mats!

In my experiences this is a great and unique forum. The depth and width of the knowledge of the posters here is unreal in a good way. Example, I post some on an outdoor forum that mostly has to do with firearms and hunting. Usually if I have a firearm question I will post it there and here. I always get more and in most cases better responses here than on that forum. Also if you do not agree with most of the outdoor forum posters very conservative views you will be ignored regardless of your question. This forum is "family" in many ways including some bickering at times but not viciously like on some other forums. Keep it up all! ;-T

Curtis, you're welcome to join us on the Kawasaki triples forum.  There are several guys with Buffaloes there, and there's a resource site about the Suzuki GTs that's maintained by one of the forum members.  You can get to the forum and resource sites here:

www.kawi2strokes.com (http://www.kawi2strokes.com)

I suspect if you post a question about the Kawasaki police bikes in the "not triple related" section, you'll get some good information.  If you have any trouble joining, let me know, but I don't think you will.  The only restrictions are related to trying to keep spammers out.

Edit: Dealers and vendors are welcome there, and are considered valuable resources to the group.  There's also a section of the forum for them to post items for sale, and for product reviews.

Years ago when I was thinking about getting a Ducati, I went on some forum and asked a few newbie questions about a certain model and I never got a response. The Norton forum is very good and I'm on a Chevelle forum that is quite good. I rarely see fights on either of those forums or I just miss them.

Hats off to you guys as the internet has turned into one big slugfest.

A lot of forums seem to have cliques as obvious as when you were in high school. If you don't somehow "fit in" or know someone, you're made to feel unwelcome or, at the very least, are just ignored.

I joined the MZ forum to learn about my barn fresh Tour. That was a waste of time.  ;D Asked a question about the weird carbs here, and had an answer shortly.  ;D WG rox..

The part that really sucks is that there is some poor guy who really needs what I was going to offer and due to moderators rules he may never get it.

I think you get cowboys and dysfunctionals anywhere. But will happily say that across a number of bike and car forums I've mostly met the kind of friendly and helpful types that we generally get here. :)

The Suzuki Sundial forum is another good place to learn about the GT750's but I'll agree this is the best forum going. If I can help with needed info on a Waterbuffalo I'll be glad to help anyway I can.

Modern life seems to make me grumpy and mean spirited at times. When some-one sows grief, I tend to respond in kind. Somehow, the flavor of Guzzi ownership and this forum transcends this tendency. The Benelli forum is the same. You meet the nicest people on a ....

Yeah, I like this forum for the depth in knowledge, not only Guzzi, but other subjects as well.

I just purchased my first MB, 99 E300D 188,000 miles and love it.  Just up and died on me 1 mile from home the other day, quick read on Benzworld, replaced the pre-filter and oring, back running.  No way would I have tried owning a MB without the knowledge on the forums.

P.S.  I have read everything on DIY bio-diesel, maybe sometime in the future.  As a DIY machinist the centrifuge has my attention.

Roy Harvey, legendary WA State Guzzisti, does biodiesel in his garage.  I've ridden in his converted car.  It does the Seattle commute @ $0.25/gal and keeps up with traffic (although it doesn't pass anything but gas stations).

Them's Russian military guys.   They give out a lot more decorations that we do; on the other hand, an old Russian Great Patriotic War and Cold War vet would have plenty of opportunities to earn them!

Great picture!

On the other hand, the modern Russian sailor gives a whole new meaning to "Three brisk broadsides and board 'em in the smoke!"

Everybody has been super friendly and helpful to me, and I'm a newbie so I'm pretty sure I'm not in a cliche. Heck, they even told me I had a cool looking bike. It's also great to see folks like Curtis here, he's been helping me out a lot lately as my new acquisition is needing some attention.
