saw an episode of wheeler dealers featuring this car. seems prettyy cool and innovated. how come it never made it to the states? was it prior to the miata? r at the same time??

Another weirdly synchronous threads. I rolled by one of my wife's estate sales a couple days ago and saw a die-cast model of a Z-1 and blew it off as some odd prototype. This thread made me look it up and I find it was a real car.
Makes me think of an Isuzu or nutty Geo from the 80's.

Had an Isuzu Impulse Turbo with the Lotus suspension. The thing was a bit of an odd-ball but it went like stink, handled well and was one of the most reliable, fun cars I've ever owned.

My Stelvio was parked next to this Z1 on the ferry between Corsica and Toulon, France. No; I've never seen one in the U.S. Frankly, looking at this one in the ferry, the style hasn't held up very well over the years.

wow. I bet that would be one of the few collector cars of that type & vintage. Any of them not turned to rust.

I saw the same episode. Fugly little thing. According to Wikipedia they didn't make many.
